5 Ways to Light Your House During a Power Outage

It’s ALMOST Fall!  With fall, we can often experience storms – especially where we live on the prairie.  And one of the results of having little storms on the prairie (too much?) is our power tends to go out fairly easily.  So how do we make sure that we’re ready for when the power goes out?  We keep several different ways to light your House on hand.

***There are links in this post.  Some of the links may be affiliate links. My promise to you is that I will only recommend the most economical version of the best quality items to serve you. All of these are the items that I have bought for my own family.  If you click on a link, your price will remain the same.  If you make a purchase, we may earn a small commission that aids in the cost of the running of this website.***

1.)  Oil Lamps

Not only are they beautiful, but Oil Lamps can be stored out in the open.    We have four different oil lamps in various rooms throughout our home.  It takes very little time to light them if they are already set up.  Make sure you stock up on lamp oil and wicks for the lamps.

2.)  Candles

We do keep candles.  While we do have decorative candles, and votives, the type of candles that I keep the most of are tea lights.  I always keep some sort of decorative candle holder in our main floor bathroom in case the power goes out.

3.)  Flashlights

We keep several different types of flashlights around.   We have little ones that I keep around the house to reach quickly.  My favorite flashlight, however, is one I got from Aldi!  It’s a telescoping flashlight.  You can point the end at something like a regular flashlight.  You can set it down and use the telescoping feature to light the area around the flashlight.  Or, when you want to get fancy, you can use the magnetic end and the telescoping feature.  While I can’t give you a link to the exact flashlight that I have, I did find this one.  It’s most similar one I could find.  And Yes, the picture is upright.  They are stuck to the side of a washing machine to show you that they are magnetic.

4.)  Luci Lights

Luci lights are the newest light source that I’ve found.  I purchased one, and I LOVE it!  It’s an inflatable SOLAR light!  They store flat, so they take up such a little space, but they are tough little lights.  These are one of my long-term solutions.  I would like to pick more of these up as we have the ability.

5.)  Solar Pathway Lights

Have you ever thought of putting Solar Pathway Lights into a potting container and placing them outside in the sun?  Then when you need them, you can bring them inside either as a group or put them around your house by themselves to give some rudimentary light by which you can navigate through your house in the dark without breaking a toe.

Do you have any other kinds of lighting that you use when the power goes out?  I’d love to hear about it!
