How to Identify a Drainage Emergency

The next step is to identify whether or not you have a drainage emergency. Here are some signs that may indicate that you do:

  • Water flowing into your house or garden from anywhere but the Pipe system (such as from an outside tap or rainwater tank).
  • Water leaking from any part of your house, including walls, ceilings, flooring and roofs.
  • Water flowing up into cracks around windows and doors.
  • Water appearing in unexpected places such as under carpets or furniture.
  • A bad smell coming from the drains or sewers.

What are the Next Steps?

Turn Off The Water Supply

The next thing you need to do is shut off all water sources that could be causing problems in your drainage system. This includes taps, dishwashers, washing machines and toilets. If you can’t shut off these supplies, then turn them off at their closest connections (like from an extension cord). If there’s still water flowing from any other source, call Drain 247 on 0800 612 8038 for immediate help.

Assess The Situation and Call For Help

If you have a blocked drain but there are no tools nearby for fixing it, don’t risk tackling the problem yourself. You may be tempted to try pushing things into your pipes to clear out whatever may be blocking your toilets, but it may make the problem even worse, particularly if you drop the item into the pipe.

Call your local drainage experts for help as soon as you spot a drainage emergency. The faster you act; the faster further damage can be prevented to your property.

If you know what you are doing and have the right tools available, then you may wish to try and resolve the problem yourself while you wait for your drainage experts to arrive.

Keep in mind that we are not responsible for any further damage you may cause to your drains by attempting to fix the issue yourself and the following should only be attempted if you know what you are doing and cannot wait for an expert to arrive at your property.

Use a Plunger

If you have an emergency situation but can’t wait for a drainage expert to arrive first, use a plunger to try and clear out whatever is clogging up your drains. To minimise damage caused by this method, make sure that you only push down on one side of the pipe at a time so as not to break anything else apart.

Remove the Trap

Next up is removing the trap from your drain pipe. If the drain pipe has been clogged by hair and other debris, you’ll have to unscrew it from its place in order to remove it from your pipes. Once removed, clean out any remaining waste material with some pipe cleaners (if available) and flush away as much as possible before replacing it back into its original location in your home’s plumbing system.

Vacuum the Drain

If your toilet isn’t flushing properly, it will be difficult for you to remove waste from it without taking off the seat or lid. Instead, vacuum out any debris that might be blocking the drain so that you can clear a path for water to flow freely out of your toilet bowl and into a bucket below or outside your home.

Use a Pipe Snake

If all else fails, you may wish to use a pipe snake right to break up whatever is clogging up your pipes. You can also use a channel-cleaning tool if you want to get as much stuff out as possible at once. These are generally easier on your hands because they have handles and larger heads than plungers do.

Use Drain Cleaning Products Appropriately

Most people don’t realise that regular cleaning is important, but if you let things sit around without cleaning them out regularly they’ll start getting blocked up over time. Even if they look fine on the surface, this can cause major problems down below because dirt and mold build up over time and cause serious issues when they eventually reach your plumbing. However, don’t overdo it with using drain cleaning products as they certain products can be very abrasive on your drain pipes, causing further damage.

Know Your Drainage System

You know that smell when you turn on the shower? That’s not just water and soap — it’s also a little bit of gunk from inside your pipes. If you don’t know about your drainage system, you could be unknowingly allowing mold to grow around your pipes. This can cause all kinds of health problems for everyone living there, so it’s best just to get the job done right from the start.

The Importance of Drainage Solutions in Your Home

A lot of people are not aware of the importance of drainage solutions in their homes. The fact is, if you don’t have a drainage system installed in your home, you’re going to have major problems.

When it comes to your home and business, drainage solutions are essential. It’s important to keep the drains in your property clear of debris so that it can properly drain away your sewage and other waste. This prevents flooding, which can cause leaks and damage to your home.

Drainage is the process of removing water from a drainage system or building. The goal is to create a system that allows water to flow out of the building without having to be pumped out by hand or machinery. It also allows any remaining water to evaporate or be absorbed by soil or plants, which reduces the risk of flooding in the future.

A drainage system should be maintained regularly so that it continues to work effectively and efficiently. If you suspect that there are problems with your drainage system, contact a professional drainage company immediately.
