How to Install a Whole House Humidifier?

I have installed two whole-house humidifiers before (in my sister’s house and my own), and it appears that they have similar steps in installation even though they are different models from two distinct brands. Here is how I installed my whole house humidifier; mine is a flow-through system with a bypass gate:

Installing the Humidifier

The first thing I did was to look at the cold air return side of the house’s heating system for a suitable spot to attach the humidifier. I checked for freezing signs because it would be silly to put it where it will freeze up.

I taped the installation template to the air duct and checked that it is level. Then I marked the holes for screws and the humidifier opening; one at each corner (for the mounting) and another four just inside (as corners to the opening).

After that, it’s drilling time. I found out in the manual what bit size to use for drilling the screw holes. I made the four inside opening holes bigger so that it will be easier to cut the opening later.

Using tin snips, I cut the opening from each inside corner hole to the other. The result is a rectangular-shaped opening and four small holes outside each corner.

Then I positioned the humidifier over the opening and screwed it in. It’s done!

Installing the Bypass Gate

There would be a duct that connects the gate and the humidifier, so I installed the gate approximately one foot away, to let the duct stretch out for better airflow.

After deciding the spot for installation, I marked the screw holes and drilled them.

Then I placed the collar on position, traced the insides, drilled a hole for a starting point and then cut out the opening with the tin snips.

Finally, I secured the screws to attach the unit.

Installing the Ducts and Tubes

You have to cut the duct mentioned earlier in the correct length between the humidifier and the bypass gate. I cut it with a pair of scissors and connected it to both units with the provided clamps. You can use hose clamps as well.

Next, I turned off the water supply and let out the water pressure by opening the faucets. This was done so that I can install the tap on fitting that clamped on the tap with a valve. Locking the valve in place and turning it will make a hole on the waterline. I used a screwdriver and a wrench to do that.

Then I made sure the tubing included in the installation kit was long enough to attach from the humidifier to the nearest cold water supply. There was actually extra length so I cut it with a knife. The fittings went to each end and were tightened with the wrench.

Installing the Humidistat

On the return duct, I marked the place for the humidistat with the help of the installation template. The manual said this should be about a foot above the humidifier unit.

I installed it like I did the humidifier. Lastly, I connected the wires. (If you have no idea about wiring, you may want to search for additional help!)

Installing the Transformer

After all that, I just attach the wires from the transformer to the humidistat, making sure it will reach the nearest power outlet, then plug it in. It’s just a lot of work and a no-brainer. Hope my article helps you install your whole house humidifier then.

Cool Mist Humidifier Benefits

A cool-mist humidifier is going to allow the person to use medicated liquids in certain models, but there are some models that have not been designed for these liquids.

While using the humidifier, it is important to choose a model that is going to recommend using these liquids which are either added to the water or that are put into a separate container in the model that is going to be able to become vaporized with the mist that is being infused into the room.

Suffering from dryness through the winter season can have effects on the body, the skin, and even the respiratory system.
