Sandra Flashman Studio’s Timeless Transformation at Cadogan Square Residence

In the heart of London’s Cadogan Square, a Grade II listed building stood, hiding within its historic walls a promise of modern elegance waiting to be unveiled. Originally a 2-Bedroom flat, the residence underwent a remarkable metamorphosis orchestrated by the visionary Sandra Flashman Studio.

The challenge was intricate: expand the space into a 3-bedroom flat while navigating the restrictions imposed by the Grade II listing. The solution was a dance of innovation and respect for history. By strategically relocating the kitchen into the living space, an extra bedroom seamlessly joined the residence, enhancing its functionality without compromising the architectural heritage.

As one steps into the first floor of this historic abode, the original Queen Anne architecture steals the spotlight. A magnificent oriel window, classic red brick reflecting the Pont Street Dutch Style, and lofty ceilings create an enchanting backdrop. The client’s desire was clear — to marry the charm of historical architecture with the sophistication of contemporary living.

Sandra Flashman Studio accomplished this delicate task with finesse. The interior design became a symphony of bespoke joinery, allowing the building’s original features to tell their own story. Cornicing plasterwork and delicately restored decorative ceiling roses became harmonious notes in this composition, echoing the elegance of the original windows.

The color palette chosen was a testament to nature’s subtlety — warm, calm, and inviting. Subtle textures, tactile moments, and occasional pops of color played together seamlessly. A striking marble backsplash stood boldly against the dark walnut kitchen cabinetry, creating a play of contrasts. Reeded oak panels in the master bedroom brushed shoulders with a sumptuous carpet, complemented by a vintage Murano glass chandelier that added a touch of glamour to the space.

In the living room, a vibrant yellow armchair became the focal point, injecting a delightful spark into the neutral ambiance. Floor-to-ceiling wool curtains whispered luxury, creating an understated yet palpable sense of opulence. Wide plank herringbone engineered oak flooring wove its way through every room, serving as a unifying element.

The designers adhered to a philosophy of timelessness, opting for natural materials that exuded warmth and texture. Full-height cabinetry seamlessly integrated into the building’s fabric, providing functional storage while keeping the space open and clutter-free. The kitchen, though bijou in size, was crafted to be efficient and aesthetically pleasing, with concealed doors leading to a hidden larder space.

In crafting this masterpiece, every detail was meticulously considered. The yellow armchair, a joyous punctuation in the living room, exemplified the careful curation of vibrant elements within a neutral canvas. The decision to leave overall wall spaces white allowed artworks to shine, transforming the residence into a gallery of modern living.
