Sundarbans (declared world heritage by UNESCO) is the largest mangrove forest in the world. It is home to the last remaining Bengal tigers in the world. Sundarbans are very rich in wildlife.

It is located between the two neighboring country Bangladesh and India and the majority portion of Sundarbans are located in Bangladesh. The environment of Sundarbans is tranquilizing and visiting Sundarbans could be a once in your lifetime experience.

Sundarbans is a big forest. Here you can visit so many places. Before visiting the forest you need to know how you should go to Sundarbans, where you should go and what you need to do. Here I am sharing my experience.

Sundarbans situated in Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, and Borguna. From Dhaka, you can go near Sundarbans by road, by train, by air, and by water transport.

How To Go Sundarbans

If you go by road, it will take around 8 hours to reach Khulna. Staying 1 night at Khulna, then go to Bagerhat to visit the historical 60 domes mosque and dighies (Very Large Pond) and from Bagerhat you will start to Sundarbans by boat on the same day.

It will take 12 hours to reach Khulna from Dhaka by train. Staying 1 night at Khulna, the next morning will start for Bagerhat to visit the historical 60 domes mosque and dighies (Very Large Pond) and from Bagerhat you will start to Sundarbans by boat on the same day.

By air will take 30 minutes to reach Jessore. From Jessore to Bagerhat will take 2 and a half hours by road. Visit the historical 60 domes mosque and dighies (Very Large Pond) and start to Sundarbans by boat on the same day

Water transport is the best and will be a memorable journey. From Dhaka, you can start by ship and the next day you will reach Bagerhat. The river cruise from Dhaka to Bagerhat will be a remarkable and a lifetime experience. Exploring Sundarbans

  • Early Morning Boat Ride on the Narrow Canals: Hundreds of canals are spread throughout the Sundarbans and these are the lifeline of it. Early in the morning all the animals and birds come to the canals for drinking water and catch prays. A ride on a soundless narrowboat on these narrow canals in the early morning could be rewarding. Only on these trips, you could be able to spot lots of animals and birds. You need to be extremely quiet and a small group to make sure not to scare them. This will give you the best experience on the Sundarbans trip.
  • Walk Inside the Forest: There is a trail from Kochikhali to Kotka, which goes through the jungle, open field and Jamtola sea beach. Walking on this 10km trail will give you a great experience to discover the forest. Make sure to wear jungle boot to protect your legs from spiky trees and grasses.  
  • Seating Quietly on a Watch Tower in the Evening: In Kotka, there is a watchtower overlooking an open field with drinking water facilities for the animals. In the evening many animals come here to drink water. You can enjoy the wild animals, birds, and view of the forest by seating quietly on the watchtower.
  • Visiting Jamtola Beach: Most of the sea beaches are overcrowded in Bangladesh except Jamtola sea beach. Because of the remoteness of the beach, many people can’t come here. Jamtola is the quietest and cleanest beach located beside the Bay of Bangle and deep inside the Sundarbans. While the Sundarbans trip, you should spend some time at Jamtola beach.

Enjoying Night at Boat: In the Sundarbans, you can see many boats are parked in different places in rivers and canals at night. Staying in the boat deck at night in Sundarbans will give you a different type of experience that you didn’t get before. You can enjoy the quietness of the forest as well as thousands of stars in the sky.

Sixty Domes Mosque at Bagerhat

Sixty Domes Mosque is situated in Bagerhat district. It was established in the 14th century by Khan Jahan Ali. This mosque was built on sixty pieces of solid stone pillar and the total domes are 77. It is one of the largest mosques in Bangladesh.

In length, this mosque is 160 feet and wide is 108 feet. Inside the height of the dome is 22 feet. 

Sixty domes mosque is UNESCO declared world heritage and one of the structural views of the 14th century. There are two dighies (very large pond) nearby the mosque that was dug at the same period for supplying pure drinking water. Till today these 2 dighies are live.     

Cox’s Bazaar the Longest Sea Beach in the World

Cox’s bazaar sea beach is the longest sea beach in the world. The unbroken 125km long beach makes Cox’s bazaar the most popular destination in Bangladesh for local and international travelers. After a long journey, it is the best place for relaxation.  

Surfing in the Bay of Bangle

The weather is very healthy in Cox’s bazaar. To avoid the crowd, you can stay in a resort where they have a private beach.

Cox’s bazaar is the place where you can enjoy beaches and hills at the same time. One side of Cox’s bazaar sea beach is the Bay of Bengal and another side is hills. You can enjoy the sunrise from the hills and the sunsets at the bay from the same place. Staying at Cox’s bazaar will be a remarkable trip for you.

Not only the sea beach but there are also many other places where you can visit and it will give you an extraordinary experience.

Here I am sharing my experience on how to start Cox’s Bazaar trip and what are the best places to visit in Cox’s Bazaar.     

How to go to Cox’s Bazaar

You can go to Cox’s Bazaar by Air, by Road or by Train. There are around 10/12 flights every day direct from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazaar. Some world-class bus transportations are available direct to Cox’s Bazaar. You can go by train up to Chittagong and then have to go by air or by bus. 

If your travel schedule is not very tight, you can spend 1 or 2 days at Chittagong, the second-largest city in Bangladesh.

In Chittagong, you can visit Foy’s Lake, Potenga sea beach, Ethnological Museum, and Chittagong war cemetery. All the places will give you very good mental refreshment.     

After spending a beautiful and memorable time at Chittagong, now time to see the world’s largest sea beach at Cox’s Bazaar. From Chittagong, you can go by bus or air to Cox’s Bazaar. By bus, it will take 4 hours and by air, it will take 30 minutes.

Bay of Bangle will give you a warm reception when you reach Cox’s Bazaar. You can listen to the roar of the Bay of Bangle.

In Cox’s Bazaar, you can choose your accommodation from the verities of hotels. You can stay here in luxurious 5-star hotels as well as budget-friendly hotels.    

At Cox’s Bazaar, you can enjoy sunbath, sunsets, can ride the beach bike, parasailing and water ski, and the view of the Bay of Bangle, which will give you remarkable feelings.

In the evening you should taste seafood, bbq, and fried fish at the beachside restaurants. The taste of seafood is amazing.

Where You Can Visit in Cox’s Bazaar

In Cox’s Bazaar, you should visit the following places

  • Inani Beach: 1 day staying and enjoying at Kolatoli beach is enough. 2nd day you can go to Inani beach. Inani beach is a very quiet place. Be relaxed with the sight of corals spread among pristine sand and the sound of the breeze calling out from the sea. Inani beach is 32km far away from Cox’s Bazaar city center. You can go there by three-wheeler or by jeep. You can enjoy your lunch at Inani seaside restaurants.
  • Himchari: At the time of return to Cox’s Bazaar from Inani, you should take a break in Himchari. Here you can enjoy, small hills, forests, waterfalls (in the rainy season), birds and the great sunsets from the hilltop.
  • Moheshkhali Island: 3rd day you can visit Moheshkhali Island, a coastal island near Cox’s Bazaar. Here you can enjoy mangrove forests, birds, landscaping and some Buddhist and Hindu temples. Moheshkhali is the place where you can see many fishing trawlers. If you are interested you can go to the bay with them.
  • Ramu: 4th day at Cox’s Bazaar, you should visit Ramu in the morning. Ramu is very famous for Buddhist temples and Buddhist culture. You can spend a few hours and then go to the burmis market for shopping  
  • St. Mertin’s Island: If you don’t go to St. Martin’s island, you never understand what you have missed. It is not possible to describe the beauty of St. Martin’s island. I can tell you one thing that just goes there and feel the calm, quiet and beautiful island.

Chittagong Hill Tracks

Hill tracks of Chittagong are very rich in natural beauty and wildlife.

Natural Beauty of Hill Tracts in Bangladesh

You can enjoy many waterfalls, hills, many unknown birds, and many animals including wild elephants. At the top of the hills, you can touch clouds. It will give you a great feeling.

Khagrachari, Bandarban, and Rangamati are the three hill districts called together the Chittagong Hill Tracts. All three districts have many natural beauties.

The food of the Hill Tracts is different from the other areas. You can enjoy wild chicken, wild birds, many types of unknown vegetables at the hill areas.

You can stay in your own tents at the Chittagong Hill Tracts. There are some resorts at the top of the hill made of mud, you can stay there also.

How to Go to the Chittagong Hill Tracts

You can go to Chittagong hill tracts in many ways. There are many direct buses from Dhaka, Chittagong, and Cox’s Bazaar. You can go to Chittagong and Cox’s Bazaar by air and then go by bus.

If you want to explore the beauty of Bangladesh, you should visit Chittagong, Cox’s Bazaar, and Hill tracts districts. I have already shared my experience with Chittagong and Cox’s Bazaar. Now let’s know about Chittagong hill tracts.

Best Places to Visit at the Chittagong Hill Tracts

Boga Lake at Bandarban

Boga Lake is the most beautiful natural lake. It is also known as Bagakian lake. The area of this lake is about 15 acres and 3000 feet above sea level. The color of the water in this lake is blue and it looks very nice. Small tribal communities like khumi, Bawm have localities besides the Boga Lake.

For campfire, Boga lake is one of the best places in the Bandarban districts. Winter is the best time for exploring there. In the winter season tracks become more difficult to go.

Buddha Dhatu Jadi

Buddha Dhatu Jadi is a Theravada Buddhist Temples. It is also known as Bandarban Golden Temples.  It is one of the holy places for Buddhists.

Bandarban Golden Temples is the largest Buddhist temple in Bangladesh.

This temple has a dress code. You should not go there wearing shorts and shoes.

Chimbuk Hill

Chimbuk is the third highest hill in Bangladesh. It is about 2500 feet above sea level. Chimbuk hill is very rich in wildlife. Especially you can see many unknown birds here. It is a very calm and quiet place.

However, when you are looking down from Chimbuk, it will get you the feeling of floating over the clouds. When it is a shiny day, you can see the shades of clouds over the hills. The huge horizon of zigzag hills seems like waves of a sea. You will also see the beauty of Chimbuk and Nilgiri.

Keokradong

Keokradong is the second-highest mountain in Bangladesh. It is about 4000 feet above sea level. It is very rich in natural beauties and wildlife. This remote area is consisting of small and big mountains and hills.

Keokradong is fully covered by forest. You can see many waterfalls here. The track is very tough here. You need proper mountain shoes, trousers, tents, etc to go there.

Jadipai is a very beautiful waterfall at Keokradong where you can do a campfire also.

Meghla

Meghla is a very popular tourist spot in Bandarban. Lakes, hanging bridge, mini safari, boat journey all you can enjoy in the same place. Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation developed this place for tourists.

Mirinja Parjatan

It is a very beautiful parjatan complex develops by Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation. Mirinjina is situated at Lama in Bandarban. It is about 1500 feet above sea level. In good weather, you can enjoy the view of the Bay and Moheshkhali island.

Nafakhum and Remakri

Natural beauty, waterfalls, wild river, remote trails, forest, wildlife, boating, Sangu river all you can get in the same place. As this area is very remote and wild, you need to register your name and address and hire an expert tour guide from the tour guide committee and it is mandatory. You can stay here at a tribal house or your own tent.  

Nilgiri and Thanchi

Foggy Hill in Bangladesh

Nilgiri is one of the highest peaks in Bangladesh. It is about 3500 feet above sea level. It is near Bandarban-Chimbuk-Thanchi road. Besides the spot, there is a Mro village. Their colorful culture and living style are surely an unexplored experience for the visitors.

In the rainy season, the whole spot is covered with a blanket of clouds. You can enjoy the cloudy experience. Winter is waiting for you with a foggy gesture on the height. This is the perfect place for a campfire. On top of the peaks, tents and a rest house is there. You can stay there with payment.  

Another beautiful place at Thanchi is Tindu village. It is one of the finest villages in the world. Flocks of floating clouds, flowing water of Sangu River and the sound of sculling boat — with all these, one village can give enormous happiness to a tourist the name of which is Tindu.

Prantik Lake

Prantik Lake is a very beautiful, calm, and quiet place. The total area of the lake is 29 acres. Boating, fishing, barking birds, forests are all you can enjoy in the same place.

Rijuk Waterfall

This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Bangladesh. It is located at Ruma Upazila in Bandarban. The water is continuously falling to the Sangu river from about 300 feet high. The rainy season is the best time to visit the place. Winter also can give you a different pleasure. This water is shiny like pearl particles in the space creating a unique beauty of nature. Surrounding the area is fully covered by forests. Rijuk waterfalls area is very rich in wildlife and birds.

Sangu River

Sangu river started at Arakan hilly area of Myanmar and flows between Myanmar and Bangladesh hilly areas and falls into the Bay of Bangle. The total length of this river is 270 km. Out of 270 km, 173 km of this river is in Bangladesh.

Sangu River is the best natural beauty of Bandarban. Both sides of Sangu are hilly and forests. You can enjoy many waterfalls here. It is a wild river, produces a huge current in the rainy season. In the winter season, it becomes calm and quiet.

Shoilo Propat

It is another natural beauty and one of the most visited waterfalls in Bangladesh. It produces very chill and clear water, that you can drink. Surrounding the waterfalls there are 2/3 tribal villages, where you can see their culture and lifestyle.

Upaban Parjatan

It is another natural beauty in Bandarban. Here you can enjoy lakes, forests, and wildlife. Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation develops this area for tourists.

Richhang Waterfall at Khagrachari

Richhang is a beautiful natural waterfall at Khagrachari. Not so wide and not as great as Jadepai or Nafakhum, but this beautiful waterfall successfully surprised the domestic and foreign travelers with its intrinsic natural beauty.

Alutila Cave

Alutila cave is one of the attractive places in Khagrachari. For adventure lovers, it is a great place. It is situated in the Alutila hills. This hill is about 150 meters long. It is surrounded by forests.

Alutila cave is a safe place for tourists. It will take 15 minutes to pass the cave. In the cave, cold water is flowing at the foot. This cave is slippery, rocky, and dark.

Dighinala Touduchhori Waterfall

It is a very remote place to go. You have to walk for a long way there. Diginala Touduchhori area is very rocky and cluttered with enormous stones and waterfalls. A group of wild elephants roaming here. Wildlife is also very rich here.

Sajek Valley at Rangamati

Sajek Valley is called the roof of Rangamati. It is one of the most popular tourist spots in the hill areas in Bangladesh. The valley is situated among the hills of the Kasalong range. The height of the peak is around 1800 feet from sea level. As the cloud and rain is the key attraction of this peak, the rainy season is ideal for a visit there.

How To Go Sajek Valley

From Dhaka, you can go to Khagrachari by bus. It will take around 7 hours. You can also go from Chittagong by bus and it will take 3 hours. From Khagrachari to Sajek Valley, you should go by local vehicle (Chader Gari). Army vehicles will escort you to go to Sajek Valley. Khagrachari to Sajek will take around 2 hours.

Kaptai Lake

Kaptai Lake is the largest man-made freshwater lake in Bangladesh. Primarily, it was made for hydroelectric power generation. But now it is one of the main sources of fish. It also contributes to agriculture. Kaptai Lake is situated in Rangamati.

The natural beauty of the Kaptai lake is unbeatable. The water of this lake is so clear that you see the deep into the lake.

Boat riding at the kaptai lake can give you unparalleled enjoyment. Without boat riding, you can’t understand the natural beauty of the area.  

Fishing and food are also very popular there.

How You Can Go to Kaptai lake

You can go to Kaptai Lake by bus from Dhaka or Chittagong. It will take around 7 to 8 hours from Dhaka and 2 to 3 hours from Chittagong to Rangamati. From Rangamati to Kaptai Lake you should go by local vehicle.

Kaptai Dam

Kaptai dam is on the Karnaphuli River, 65km upstream from Chittagong in the Rangamati district. You can go there for a few hours and can enjoy the natural beauty.

Shuvolong Waterfall

It is a very beautiful waterfall in Rangamati. You can reach there through the lake by boat. High hills and natural forests make the waterfall very attractive.

Pablakhali Wildlife Sanctuary

It is the northeast corner of the Chittagong Hill Tracks. The Pablakhali Wildlife Sanctuary is the home of elephants and other wildlife. It is located in the Rangamati district of the Chittagong division. You can see here many kinds of known and unknown birds also.

Srimangal the Tea Capital of Bangladesh

Srimangal is called the tea capital of Bangladesh. It is very rich in natural beauties. Tea gardens, hills, waterfalls, lakes, forests, wildlife, birds are all you can enjoy from the same place.

It is a very calm and quiet place, which will give you a good mental piece.

Srimangal is a hilly place. You can find many tea estates, lemon, pineapple, and rubber gardens around Srimangal.

Lawachara national park and National tea garden lake will give you extra pleasure. Srimangal is the place, where you can taste 7 color/7layer tea in a cup.

A few days spent around its tea gardens, villages, and forests will give you a remarkable travel experience.

How To Go To Srimangal: You can go to Srimangal by road and by train from Dhaka. The train journey is very comfortable and fantastic. It will take 4 to 5 hours by road and by train.  

In Srimangal there are many cottages. You can stay in those cottages. These cottages will give you home living feelings.

Ratargul

Ratargul is called the Amazon of Bangladesh. It is a freshwater swamp forest. It is located at Goain Ghat in the Sylhet division in Bangladesh.

This swamp forest is the only freshwater swamp forest in Bangladesh and very few in the world. This forest is flooded by rainwater coming from the Indian Hills in the monsoon period. The water of this amazing forest is so clear that you can see the bottom layer. The water level of this forest never remains the same. It depends on rainfall. Sometimes water level reaches 20 feet at the heavy rainfall time.

The main trees of this forest are zigzag style. The root of these trees is on two levels. One is in the ground and another is in the mid-level.

Ratargul is very rich in wildlife. Monkeys, snakes, and many types of birds are seen here. Many migrated birds also come each year in the season.      How to go Ratargul: From Sylhet, it is around 19 km away. You need to hire a microbus/van to go to ratargul

Bisnakandi- A beautiful place in Sylhet

Hills and Water Meet Together

Bisnakandi is the place where many layers of Khasi mountains meet at a single point from both sides. It is situated in the Rustampur union under Goainghat Upazilla in Sylhet.

It is a natural beauty of high hills and wetlands. The rainy season is the best time to visit bisnakandi.

How To Go: You should hire a microbus or four-wheel vehicle from Sylhet to go to Bisnakandi. It is around 40 km from Sylhet and will take around 1 hour.

Panthumai

a village from West Jaflong Union under Guainghat Upazilla – is another tourism hub in Sylhet. The village, which is very near to the east Khasia hill of the Meghalaya ranges, boasts of an eye-catching fall popularly known as Borhill Fall. Though the main fall is geographically located in the Indian territory, people can enjoy its enormous splendor head-on. Flowing from the Borhill Fall is a branch of the river Piyain that heads west and leads to Bisnakandi, another major tourist spot.

How to go: From Sylhet is about 45 km and you can rent a microbus. It will take around 2 hours to go to Panthumai.

Luvachora

It is another beautiful place in Sylhet. It is a border area. The opposite side of luvachora in Meghalaya. Hills, waterfalls, and wetlands are all you can see in the same place. If you can go near the border with the permission of BGB, you can enjoy some extraordinary creations of nature.

How to go: You should go by boat from Kanaighat to Luvachora. Sylhet to Kanaighat you have to go by road.

Ancient Buddhist vihara at Paharpur

Phaharpur Buddhist vihar is one of the world heritage declared by UNESCO. It is located in Badalgachhi Upazila, Naogaon District, in the northwest of Bangladesh. It is the second-largest single Buddhist monastery.

The Paharpur Buddhist vihara was made a WHS as a tribute to the Pala Dynasty, which ruled Bangla and Bihar for the 3.5 century from the middle of the 8th century.

How to go: You can go by bus or train from Dhaka to Naogaon. From Naogaon to Pharpur you can hire a microbus or van.
