4 Things to Do When Moving Into a New Home

Moving into a new home isn’t easy. There are a lot of things you need to put in motion and organize to help things run as smoothly as possible. This goes for your current home, as well as the home you are Moving into.

A little over 6 years ago, we moved from a home we had lived in for close to 30 years, It was crazy. There were so many things I would do differently now, including the tips in this post!

Regardless of whether you are moving into a turnkey property or you are doing renovation work, the following tips can make the process easier and give you a good starting base.

Change The Locks

You literally have no idea of the amount of people who may have had access to your new home in the past. If you have purchased the residence, it’s a good idea to change the locks on windows and doors to prevent access from previous resident keyholders. If you are renting, you might be allowed to add additional locks and security. If you aren’t comfortable with others potentially being able to come into your home with a key, or you aren’t convinced you own all copies of house keys, get the locks changed for added security and peace of mind.

Deep Clean

Start afresh by booking a one-off deep clean for your new home so you have as clean a slate as possible to move in. Not only will this remove traces of previous occupants, but it will be one less thing for you to worry about, and you can move in knowing everything is in tip-top shape. Plus, it’s easier to do jobs like this with nothing in the house, so your cleaning company will have no obstacles and can ensure a high-quality clean in all areas.

Pest Control

The last thing you want is to move into a new home and find out you have some type of infestation. Even if you aren’t aware of any signs of rodents or insects making your new house their home, too, book an inspection and get the professionals in. Having pest control services check out the property to give you the all-clear or eradicate any pests prior to moving in can take a weight off your mind and give you the confidence to move into a home that isn’t already inhabited.

Redirect your Mail

Most Mail services now allow you to redirect your mail so everything goes to your new home, and no vital documents or bills get lost in the switchover. As soon as your move-in date is confirmed, get in touch with your local mail carriers or delivery services to give them your new and old address and set up a redirect to have all mail forwarded to your new property. This is often overlooked, but important to do, to ensure you get all of your mail. You will protect yourself from identity fraud at the same time.

Moving house can be complex and overwhelming, and these tips can make the adjustment process that little bit easier and allow you to settle into your new place knowing it’s safe, clean, and organized.
