On Monday afternoon, the Jupiter Police Department reported a tragic electrocution that occurred on Sunday at Harbourside Place. Following the incident, three children and two adults were rushed to local hospitals for medical attention. One person lost their life, while four others suffered injuries due to an electric shock received in the fountain area.

As of Monday afternoon, three victims are still in the process of recuperating at St. Mary’s Medical Center. One of the adult victims had been discharged from Jupiter Medical Center, while the other adult unfortunately did not survive and was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital.

According to investigators from the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on a Sunday at Harbourside Place. It all began when a juvenile entered the fountain, where they quickly began experiencing distress, initially raising concerns of a possible drowning.

Bystanders courageously leaped into action to assist, but their efforts were met with an unexpected electric shock in the water.

Officials still working to determine the source of any potential electrical hazards. In response to the incident, eight individuals were evaluated for injuries.

Initial reports of the incident said that the child was injured in the splash pad. However, a statement from Harbourside Place aimed to clarify exactly where the incident occurred.

“It happened in the fountains that have no climbing signs all around them. Also some clearly marked signs that say no swimming and that’s where this happened.”

Statement From Harbourside Place Spokesperson

Captain Tom Reyes of the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue praised the rapid response of the Jupiter Police Department and civilians who were already providing essential assistance upon their arrival.

“When we arrived on scene, the Jupiter Police Department and civilians were treating patients when we got here, so they got here very quick, and the community and Jupiter police were also involved in that, and that was a good thing,” said Capt. Tom Reyes, with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

Investigation into the cause of Sunday’s tragic incident remains ongoing.
