Cape Cod Songs to Add to Your Summer Playlist

It’s always fun to find songs you can relate to, and even with summer beginning to wind down, it’s still not too late to make a summer playlist. If you’re dreaming about moving to Cape Cod, visiting, or you’re already there, you may want to consider adding a few songs with local references to your list before the season comes to an end.  The “Old Cape Cod” Song originally dates back to a gold record single tied to singer Patti Page. The song came out in the 1950s, based on a poem written by a woman who lived in the Boston area at the time. When the song first came out, Page reportedly had never even been to Cape Cod herself. Even so, some credit the song to helping boost the region as a tourist destination. It’s said singer/songwriter Billy Joel references local spots in a song called “The Downeaster ‘Alexa’”. While Alexa is the name of his daughter, in the song he refers to a boat called Alexa, which is supposedly sailing towards Nantucket. You don’t have to be a die-hard “Parrothead” to recognize a Jimmy Buffett song. While it may not be one of his most famous songs, Buffett did help co-write a song called “Volcano”, which mentions places in Cape Cod. Along the same lines, there’s a song many of us probably call “The Pina Colada Song”, but that’s not really its name at all. Instead, the song is called “Escape”, and it has a key line that talks about the “dunes of the Cape”.  If the Indie rock band Vampire Weekend is more your style, there’s a song called “Walcott” that mentions Cape Cod, too. This time, though, the song isn’t exactly all that flattering. Still, if you don’t take the songs too seriously, any of them could end up being fun additions to your summer playlist.
