If you’re looking for a place to take in the true beauty of Cape Cod, you don’t necessarily have to get out on the water. There are plenty of sensational spots to Picnic on the Cape. Bass Hole Beach- Yarmouth Port Also referred to as Gray’s Beach, Bass Hole Beach in Yarmouth Port features covered picnic tables and two parking areas. You can rent out the picnic area in advance for an event or try your luck once you arrive. There are also plenty of shady spots to set up a picnic in the area. The beach features seasonal restrooms, a boardwalk into the salt marsh, a playground and a boat launch. Veterans Memorial Park Beach- Hyannis For fantastic views overlooking Lewis Bay, head to Veterans Memorial Park Beach in Hyannis. The beach sits just outside of Downtown Hyannis. It features a large parking lot and a shaded picnic area that’s close to the beach. It’s a favorite spot for families, especially during the summer months. Sandy Neck Beach- West Barnstable Sandy Neck Beach in West Barnstable doesn’t necessarily have a designated picnic area, but you certainly have your choice of spots. The beach is large enough to offer several places to set up a picnic right on the sand. The barrier beach also has a snack shack with its own outdoor dining area. If you have the required off-road vehicle permit, you may be able to drive to a more secluded section to set up a picnic on the far end of the beach. Johnny A. Kelley Recreation Area-South Dennis In South Dennis, consider taking your picnic to the Johnny A Kelley Recreation Area. It’s not exactly on the beach, but it does sit just a few blocks away from Flax Pond. The park includes several covered tables and even some wood stoves. It also offers a playground, hiking trails and sports fields.
