Small Woodworking Projects for Beginners: DO Not Make This Mistake!

As cliched as it sounds, every professional was once just a beginner who didn’t quit. When you start DIY projects, you end up using more resources than you thought you would, you spend hours doing something the wrong way and end up hurting yourself quite a few times here and there. But trust me few months down the line you would laugh it off over grilled chicken and beer with your neighbors.

Whats most important is that you take baby steps, get your fundamental skills in the place, get used to using tools like a chainsaw, table saw, circular saw and others. Once you have mastered how to use the tool, you can take up bigger projects.

Here are some interesting projects that we felt beginners could take up very comfortably, do share your thoughts in the comments below!

#1. DIY Hanging Planter

When you are starting out, you don’t want to spend too much money experimenting. That’s what makes this Diy Hanging Planter a great first option. You can make this in less than $30 (assuming you have all the tools already). If you love some mid-century style design, you are going to have a great time making this!

#2. DIY Wooden Door Mat

This is one of my personal favorites in the list, as you can do it while your toddlers are around without worrying too much. Check out how Ashley from domestic imperfection, gave a failed blue mat a wooden makeover.

#3. DIY Metal Pipe Table

If you love a rustic design with modern elements like metal pipes then this project is a great choice for you. If you buy these in stores you are easily spending upwards of a thousand dollars, so pull up your socks instead get this done yourself for a few hundred dollars in supplies. Folks at Diy Projects have prepared this guide to help you along the way.

#4. DIY Side Table

I wouldn’t recommend this to an absolute beginner, but if you are looking to take your skills a few notches up then this challenge is perfect. You can complete the full project in less than $20! Amy at Her Tool Belt provides you with all the information to complete this project flawlessly.

#5. DIY Dry Erase Board

Okay, I will be honest, there is nothing that lets me get my thoughts organized like writing them on the whiteboard. That is the case with in fact most people, even with such tech overload, most product ideas are still discussed on whiteboards! So why not make one for yourself. See how Amy from she wears many hats made a whiteboard out an old frame.

#6. DIY Wooden Frame

A lot of people love to hang pictures of their loved ones on walls around the house (PS: my wife has 70 odd pictures of the boys in our house). So it would be a great idea to turn a $5 pine board from Home Depot into your customized photo frame. Have a look at Autumn’s guide on its always autumn.
