7 Things To Consider When Moving to California

7 Things To Consider When Moving To California

When I first visited LA two years ago, I swore I wouldn’t like it. I’m an East Coast girl and I knew it just wouldn’t be for me. I couldn’t have been more wrong! I absolutely LOVED Los Angeles when I visited. Two days into my trip, I started looking for apartments. Although, I decided not to move there, I still think it’s an incredible place to live.

If you are planning on making the big move to California, then you might want to think carefully about this. Do you know what the weather will be like throughout the year? Is there anything to do there for you and your family? There are many things that you should know, and you should make sure to do plenty of research before buying a property there.

The good news is that we have put together some of the interesting things that you should know about California before moving there. This will include everything from the fact that you might need to switch over to a healthy diet to the fact that this is a very hot state. Make sure to keep reading to find out more.

1. It Is Hot

If you are from one of the more northernly states, then you might be used to the warmer weather from time to time. Some states have a warm summer and a cold winter, with all of the usual connotations that you would expect of these seasons. This is often what people prefer as it gives them a good mix of climate throughout the year.

If you move to California, then you need to recognise that the weather is going to be very warm throughout the entire year. California was experiencing a very long drought for many years until a few years ago and this shows the lack of rain and colder weather that you can expect from this state.

Of course, hot weather isn’t a bad thing as long as you are comfortable living in it. This is not a holiday, this is your home and so you will need to exercise in the heat, get to work and go about your daily activities. This can be harder in the warm weather and so this might be something to consider.

Make sure to do your research and find out if you can handle the heat that California has to offer you.

2. You’ll Need A Car

California is a really big state and many people like to travel through the various towns and cities to see what they have to offer. This means that you will probably need a car to get around and really see what you can do, otherwise it is going to be very difficult. While many states have some really good transport systems in place that allow you to jump on the subway or get a train, you will find it hard to get around this state without a solid form of transport that you can rely on.

Of course, you don’t need to use a car if this is not something that you enjoy. You can ride a bike or walk around but you might not get very far if you do that. Many people in California ride bikes around the smaller cities or even try their hand at skateboarding and this can be quite fun.

Make sure to consider the fact that you might need a car or a method of transport that you are comfortable using if you are moving to California. This way, you can get between some of the smaller locations like Long Beach and head off to LA.

3. Energy Efficiency Is Important

If you weren’t already aware, California is one of the leading states for making some real big changes in renewable energy. This state has made some big commitments to making some changes and the people of this state are already doing what they can in their homes. With so much sunshine in this state, many homes are installing solar panels in order to generate their own energy and save the planet one step at a time.

For those living in Burbank, LA Solar Panel Installation is becoming very common. The best solar company in Burbank is Semper Solaris who are known for their incredible service and great solar panels. Many people are opting for solar panel installation in Burbank and taking advantage of solar tax credit Burbank to do what they can for the environment. If the initial cost of the solar panel installation is something which is putting you off, then you can take advantage of the solar tax credit that this state has to offer.

4. The Outdoors Are Great

Another thing that you should know about living in California is that many people like to get outdoors and explore nature. This is a stunning state that is filled with beaches and great places that you can hike up. This is why many people in CA are very active and enjoy living in this state that has so much to offer outdoors. A quick search of the internet will present you with some really great images of the beaches in places like Long Beach and other coastal cities but there is a lot more on offer in CA than just that.

Getting outdoors is good for your health as it not only allows you to get some exercise but also some fresh air that can help keep your mental health in check. Mental health is very important in 2019 as more people are becoming aware of issues that they face and are looking for places like California to really give themselves a break. Your mental health and your physical health are just as important as each other and by getting outdoors you can really improve both of them in order to improve your life as a whole.

If you are planning on moving to California this year then you should make sure to get outdoors as much as you can. Any new friends that you make will likely encourage you to go for a hike up to the Hollywood Hills and get a real glimpse into what this state has to offer. Many people don’t enjoy hiking but once they give it a go, they can really see what makes it so great. Make sure to visit the outdoors and get your hiking boots out if you are visiting California today.

5. Health Food Is Always In

If you pay attention to the media, then you will know that California is a hub for those who want to live a healthy lifestyle and eat health food. New health food stores and restaurants that offer great healthy and vegan alternatives are opening every single day and this is what is adding to the reputation of this state. Some people even visit California just to try the great food and many famous chefs have opened their own restaurants in California as they know that they will do well here.

If you aren’t already into health food, then you will see just how great it can be when you move to California. Healthy food is so important to keeping your body in good health and this is why you should consider giving it a try when you get there. Many of these restaurants experiment with new flavors and offer some really great juices and smoothies which you’ll be sure to love.

For those who aren’t into the whole health food craze then don’t worry because you should also know that there are plenty of junk food and fancy restaurants in California. Whether you want to grab a bite of street food or head to the poshest restaurant in LA, you should be able to find something that you like. One of the favorites in this state is In N Out Burger which you will love if you are a burger lover.

6. Taxes Are High

One of the things that you should know about living in California is that it is a high-tax state. This is not ideal, but it is something which you need to realize if you are going to be living there and earning a living. The income taxes can be very high for those who are earning a lot, and this can take a large chunk of your salary each month. The government uses this money to improve the state and many people believe that they should be paying taxes in order to keep California the way it should be.

The good news is that when it comes to taxes, property tax in California is a lot lower. You should also find that you can get more for your dollar which is great and means that you won’t notice the higher tax too much.

Before moving, make sure to check out how much tax you are likely to pay on your current salary and this will help you to make the right decision. You don’t want to risk putting your family in a financial position that is risky.  Make sure that you do your research, and this will help you to be sure that this is right for you.

7. Natural Disasters Are Something to Take Into Consideration

The final thing that we think you should know about living in California is that it can be quite risky when it comes to natural disasters. You will probably have heard about the wildfires that have happened in CA in the past year and how much global warming is having an impact on these. If you are planning on moving, then you should make sure that your home can withstand this kind of issue.

In California, there are also plenty of other natural hazards that you might want to pay attention to. This can include everything from mudslides to earthquakes and this is something which the people of California have to deal with.

While these things don’t happen very often, there is a risk that they could, and you need to make sure that you are living somewhere that is safe for your family. Make sure to get some insurance for your new property and include any kind of natural disasters if you can in this policy if you want to make sure that you are not left out in the cold.

Final Verdict

If you are planning on moving to CA in the near future, then you should make sure that you know exactly what you are getting yourself in for. While this state might look great from the outside, it does have its problems just like any other state in the USA. This state is known for its celebrity status, but it also has its fair share of natural disasters and general crime. Make sure that you know what is involved before you make the move.

Some of the things that you should consider when moving to California include the fact that they are very into their renewable energy. If you are not someone who is concerned with the planet then this might not be the right place for you. You should also know that this state has a lot to do, especially for those who like to spend their time outdoors.
