How to prepare your home for Christmas

With Christmas and the festive season just around the corner, it’s a good time to start preparing your home for upcoming guests and parties. The key to a stress-free Christmas is planning and preparation to avoid last minute rushing! Start by writing a list of everything that needs to be done before Christmas around the home and check things off one-by-one. With a systematic approach, you’ll be prepared to welcome guests and relaxed in no time.
Do small repairs
By taking care of any little repair jobs around your home, you’ll give yourself more time for the fun part: decorating! Consider having a guest Bathroom if you’re expecting holiday guests, and if you already have a guest bathroom, make sure all the tiles, fittings, fixtures and furnishings are in good condition. If you’re thinking about installing a new guest ensuite, have a look at one of our previous articles
 to give you some guidance.
Make your rooms guest-ready
If you’re having guests over Christmas, make sure your bathrooms are clean and tidy! There’s nothing worse, as a guest, than a messy bathroom, or one that is in desperate need of repairs. Be sure to also check bed linen, mattresses and blankets, as well as ensuring the pillows are plump and fresh, and remember to have extra blankets ready in case your guests need them at night. Hang up a set of fresh towels or lay them on the guest bed, so your guests can easily find them. Learn from the things that you do and do not enjoy as a guest, and implement these for your guests! Maybe it’s including a spare mobile phone charger, area guide, stationary, or little chocolate on their pillow. Even if it’s a family member who has come to stay, they’ll love the thought!
For your guest bathrooms, make sure you put away your usual personal items and provide special guest toiletries. Keep a hair dryer by the sink and a bottle of shampoo in the shower. This will make your guest feel welcome immediately.
First impressions
To welcome your guests, write a welcome letter and leave it at the front door or on the bed if you are not going to be home. For out-of-towners, mention some go-to-spots like your favourite café, or how to get into the city. You could even set up a welcome snack in their bedroom or in the kitchen with some local treats. Placing a bottle of water with a glass next to the bed is also a great move to satisfy your guests, which I’m sure they’ll appreciate!
