Things to Consider Before You Get a Wet Room

The wet room is essentially an open Bathroom and it is one of the latest trends when it comes to bathroom renovations. A wet room has a spa like feel, so it’s easy to see why this area is so appealing!  The entire bathroom contains materials that are water resistant so that every surface can get wet.  Many wet rooms feature a space with a shower and a tub that is completely freestanding and both are contained in a separate glass enclosure to separate them from the toilet and sink areas in the bathroom, giving them a very luxurious spa feel. The water is prevented from seeping out of the sealed area and often the floor is designed with a slight slope and a drain in the centre so that all water is drawn away from the rest of the room.
Many people want to update their homes with the most modern amenities.  A wet room is certainly a newer trend that is going to add value to your home and offer enjoyment for years to come.  So what should you think about before you install a wet room in your home?
1. Renovation works
Will you do it yourself or have a Professional do the work?  The main thing to think about is that the water must be contained with proper water proofing so that you do not have water damage to the rest of the room or other areas of your home.  If you have a professional do the work then they will provide a warranty for their work and this is important if anything fails in the future for insurance purposes. For all plumbing works, we highly recommend hiring a professional.
2. Electronics
You will have to ensure that no appliances or other items that are normally found in a bathroom are used in your wet room when the area is wet.  If you tend to shave or do any other type of activity that requires electricity, make sure you do this is a dry area.  Safety is key and is something that the whole family should be well informed about.
3. Size
Do you have a small bathroom?  A wet room option can definitely open up the area and make it seem much larger than it is.  If you do not require a bathtub in the bathroom then an enclosed shower can be a good option.
4. Accessibility
If you need to update a bathroom for disabled people or the elderly, then a wet room is a good option because there is no need for a step-up shower recess. Your tiles and other water proof surfaces are flat and offer a more accessible area.
5. Value
A lot of people agonise over where best to spend their renovation budget. To be honest, the two best places are the kitchen and the bathroom for the highest return on investment.  You will definitely be adding major value to your property and improving the structure and safety of your property. However, if you do decide to forgo a bathtub, keep in mind that this can make your property less appealing to young families, as this demographic prefer baths for their kids.
6. Cleaning
Do you enjoy cleaning?  If you are like most people, cleaning the bathroom is at the bottom of your list of “fun” things to do!  A wet room is easier to keep clean because there’s no shower screen! As a bonus, your floor will get wet most of the time, naturally cleaning itself.
7. New ideas
Out of design ideas?  A wet room can be a beautiful addition to your home and it doesn’t really take much to make it amazing.  These rooms tend to be quite minimalistic so they look incredible with very little effort. A combination of concrete, stone, glass and wood can all come together to create something that you will enjoy using for years to come.
These are just a few things that you should consider if you are thinking about installing a wet room.  Renovations and updates to your home will help it to retain and increase in value over the years.  If you ever want to sell your home, the less a new owner has to do, the better!
