How To Restore The Intensity Of The Headlights

1. Clean the headlights

The goal: To remove dust and dirt from their surface.

  • Never clean the headlight lenses with a dry cloth, you could scratch the surface.
  • Use a soft, clean cloth or sponge.
  • Use car shampoo as a detergent.
  • After cleaning the lenses, dry them with a clean cloth.

2. Polish the headlights

The goal: To correct micro-cracks, scratches and remove the veil from the Headlights.

  • Use a special kit for hand polishing.
  • Protect the paint around the lighthouse with masking tape.
  • Wear eye protection and a breathing mask during the operation.
  • This kind of operation must be carried out in a clean and properly ventilated room.
  • Read the instructions and follow the recommendations provided by the manufacturer.
  • Carefully clean and degrease the lenses.
  • Remember to polish the headlights once a month.

3. Replace the bulbs.

The average lifespan of a bulb varies according to its type: 500 h for standard incandescent, 1,500 h for halogen, 3,000 h for xenon and more than 10,000 for LED Bulbs.

  • Do not touch the glass of the bulb, you must hold it by the base.
  • Replace the bulbs of both headlights at the same time to have uniform lighting.
  • Do not replace halogen bulbs with gas bulbs (e.g. xenon).
  • Do not install bulbs more powerful than the preceding ones.

4. Restore the power supply

The goal: To eliminate possible connection problems or contact oxidation of the wires.

  • Inspect connectors and wires and replace if necessary.
  • Clean the connectors and spray them with electrical contact cleaner.
  • To protect the contacts, apply a special lubricating grease to the connectors.
  • When you replace the wires, choose those covered with silicone.

5. Clean the headlight ventilation

The goal: To remove condensation and haze from the headlight lenses.

  • Inspect and clean the ventilation valve.
  • Check the lamp gaskets and replace them if necessary.
  • Make sure the rear covers are properly tightened to the headlight housing.

6. Adjust the headlights

The goal: To reduce the risk of dazzling drivers opposite and to ensure good visibility when driving at night.

  • Check if your vehicle's headlights are adjustable.
  • Adjust the headlights according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Remember to readjust the headlights once a year, after replacing bulbs, installing new rims or wheels, or repairing the front end of the vehicle.
