The look of the room

A really good gaming room begins with the décor, as it is likely to be somewhere you will spend a lot of time. If you have the money, you might want luxurious furnishings for the room: for example, dark panelled walls, chandeliers and mellow lighting if the games you are going to play there are more traditional ones like snooker. On the other hand, if you are a modern video gamer, a cool, minimalist look, perhaps with framed posters of movies or sports on the wall and a sofa and chairs for gaming sessions with friends will be a more suitable style. Of course some people prefer gaming that involves betting and you can certainly make this a part of your games room, but the cost of turning the room into a full casino will be far beyond the reach of most people, so don’t go too crazy trying to imitate the opulence of casino décor.

The games

Obviously you want your gaming room to be an inviting place, but what will really make it are the actual games. Now, the term ‘gaming room’ often means different things to different age groups. For older people, it generally tends to refer to something like a snooker or billiards room, while for younger ones it means video games. For the former, you will need to have space for a full-sized table and things like racks for the cues. Video games take up a lot less space, but if you have plenty going spare you might want to add a classic arcade games machine when putting together your video gaming room. This will be a talking point and will also add variety.

Perhaps the best type of games room though is one that blends ball games, video games and Board Games, as this can be used by the whole family. Provided there is enough room for a snooker or pool table and shelf space for the video and board games it therefore makes perfect sense to include all three.
