5 Ways Poor Sleep Hygiene Makes You Less Productive

When you’re not getting enough Sleep, it is affecting every sphere of your life. From work to social relationships, fragmentary or restless sleep takes a toll on your everyday life and activities. Poor Sleep Hygiene can lead to mood swings, health issues and even losing
your job. Due to the hectic lifestyle we lead, getting a good night’s sleep is a luxury everyone has to afford to function normally. If you don’t get a proper amount of sleep, not only is your body exhausted, but also your brain, or in other words, the central nervous system. It is the command centre responsible for sending the messages and giving out orders to organs throughout your body.

Keep Losing Focus

For example, when you’re at work, the most important thing is to focus on getting the job done right. When you haven’t slept in days, it’s hard to keep track of all the assignments and reports you are obligated to finish. Often, there are deadlines you have to meet, and meetings to attend where you need to prove yourself. You can’t give your maximum effort at the meetings when you want to impress your boss and prove yourself, if all you do is think about your sleep deprivation.

Affects Your Health

As we already mentioned, minor health issues such as headaches or weakened immunity are a common part of your everyday life. Not getting enough sleep over a longer period of time can even lead to major health hazards such as anxiety and depression. When poor sleep hygiene ruins your health, it becomes more than just an inconvenience, but a serious problem that needs to be solved as soon as possible.
What Do Your Friends Say?
You’re not able to converse with others and contribute to conversations in a normal way, or be as fun as you used to be before. Experiencing mood swings and getting angry at people for no reason at all are becoming normal. Sometimes you even distance yourself from people since you can’t stand all the noise and constant chatter. On the other hand, your quick-tempered nature can also make people want to distance themselves from you. This way, your social life is suffering, which can also mean you miss out on some business partnerships or it even prevents you from finding your significant other.

Tossing and Turning

Instead of thinking about all the fun events that happened to you during the day, you’re lying in bed annoyed and frustrated you can’t fall asleep. It is a vicious cycle that needs to be broken. If you want to help yourself, and refrain from getting medication if it is not necessary, try listening to some relaxing music before going to bed to calm your running mind. A hot bath will soothe your aching muscles, and silk sheets and pillowcases will cool down your body and make sure the body temperature isn’t too high, so you can get your necessary sleep. To keep your silk shiny and smooth, wash your sheets and pillowcases regularly. Clean bedding accompanied with that special scent of cleanliness will help you in your fight against restless nights.

Everyday Activities

Have you noticed you became less interested in hobbies that once brought you joy? This is what poor sleep hygiene does to your mind. It prevents you from having fun and enjoying the time you spend awake. You are not productive at work, and also don’t have the energy to pursue your hobbies or passions.

These are some common situations in life that happen very often if you’re not sleeping properly. Eight hours of sleep is an optimal amount every person should strive to get every night. What do you do when you can’t fall asleep? Tell us all about your experience and strategies for zoning out in the comment section below!
