1.How did the brand Anavila Evoke? What is the inspiration?

The Brand Anavila is an expression of my own personality and my relation with the nature at large. It kept evolving through my career as a designer and finally translated into Linen saris to start with. Nature in its totality is my inspiration . Be it the beautiful botanicals or rough barks , I feel inspired when I am connected with nature and it manifests itself in my work.

2.Anavila collections are so elegant and comfortable. What makes it so?

My aesthetics come out of the philosophy that I believe in, which is about minimalism, simplicity, comfort and a design expression that does not try too hard to shout. It is meant for the woman of today who is leading the thinking and change in this world, while is still grounded in culture and values that make us who we are. And for her an ‘Anavila saree or garment ‘ is  an expression that resonates with her personality and makes her utmost comfortable.

3.What is education background of Anavila? Was it inspired?

I always had a keen interest in design which manifested in many ways through my childhood. I used to make flower arrangements and wall decorations with natural flowers and materials collected from gardens and wild forest areas near our house. I used to design my clothes and even those of my doll’s. Under the guidance of my mother I learnt embroidery, knitting, sewing and painting at home.

Choosing a career path was quite easy with a lot of support and encouragement at home. I did my post graduation in Knitwear Design from NIFT Delhi and graduated in 2000. Though I also have a management degree with majors in finance.

4.What duration did the brand took to come for limelight?

It’s been a beautiful 5 years! The brand has evolved organically. We have been able to stay true to our brand DNA yet innovate and evolve in the same niche. The fact that our saris are recognised and have been able to make a mark on the fashion front is the biggest compliment.

5.Where does Anavila wants to see in future?

To focus on design and form. I want to create an environment that is truly reflective of our aesthetic. We are focusing on strengthening our clusters and exploring possibilities of collaborations. I also want to expand further into home décor.
