Top 5 Ways to Keep Pest Out

We put together a list of the top ways to avoid pests! Don’t let your home get invaded, learn to protect yourself today.

Yard debris

Many pests will build nests in your yard before they invade the home. Leaf piles, weeds, and dead plants all make great homes for Roaches. Any woodpiles or fallen fruit can also attract termites and ants respectively.

Store food

Pests are really good at sniffing out food, and if there is open food anywhere in your home they can find it. You should always put food into sealed containers including cereals and flour, these can attract pantry pests like meal moths. If you do keep fruits and vegetables out make sure to dispose of them before they spoil and attract roaches, flies, or ants. Most pest control companies will tell you that food is the top reason for infestations.

Seal cracks

Keeping your home clean and tidy is very important, but so is sealing any holes or cracks that pests could crawl through. Roaches, rodents, and ants all get into homes through small openings and will often lead others in. Pests can easily squeeze through windows and doors that are warped or broken so get these replace promptly. It is also important to regularly check for foundation cracks, loose siding, and gaps around pipes, wiring, etc. In many cases calk won’t cut it as pests like roaches can chew through it, so we recommend mesh screens or mortar.

Groom pets

Whenever you take your pets outside, they can be like a magnet for pests of all kinds that ride right into your home. You can’t feasibly bath them any time they step outside, so regular grooming and brushing will help reduce the risk of bugs. Additionally using a monthly flea and tick treatment is an excellent way to keep your pets and your home pest-free.

Upkeep your garden

Keeping your garden maintained can also be vital to keeping pests out of your home. Trim any branches that touch the home as these can be used as bridges for pests. Additionally, try using rocks as ground cover rather than mulch or pine bark as pests often use the latter for nests. Also don’t leave standing water in your yard and fill in holes or pits where it collects, these puddles can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
