You know what they say – an apple a day keeps the winter away. Okay, so maybe that isn’t totally how the saying goes, but you get the point. Apples are awesome, and when it’s fall in Portland, their deliciousness is at its peak.

During the weekends of October 13 and 20, Portland Nursery is hosting a free tasting event that’ll be fun for the whole family. There’ll be a wide range of apple and pear varieties to enjoy along with some cider pressing demonstrations. And, once you’re done dabbling in the fruit, you can take as much home as you like – it’s only 99 cents per pound!

Take in Some Fall Color

Ah, the quintessential fall activity of taking a leisurely stroll through breathtaking landscapes. If you want to experience fall in Portland in all its glory, you must visit these spots:

Here, you get statues, art, and beautiful plant life. But, that’s actually not the most interesting part. South Park Blocks is an urban oasis conveniently located in the heart of downtown Portland!

Pumpkin Patches

No surprise, right? Pumpkins are a huge deal when it’s fall in Portland, and the City definitely has your back when it comes to cool patches. There are many to choose from, but these are our favorites:

Bi-Zi Farms (Open Every Weekend in October)

Fancy some corn mazes, farm animals, pony rides and live music? Bi-Zi Farms is for you. Also, the kids can try out calf roping, pumpkin launching, and pedal tractor driving.  And, the pièce de résistance – you get to take home a free pumpkin! No matter what the size is, as long as you can carry it out, it’s yours!

French Prairie Gardens (Open All of October)

You know what goes really well with fall in Portland? Pig races. It’s the main attraction of the French Prairie Gardens pumpkin patch, and people from all over come to check it out. If you’re unable to catch the pig derbies, don’t worry – there are also corn mazes, obstacle courses, and slides.

Plumper Pumpkin Patch (September 23 to October 31)

Outside of having a fantastic name, Plumper Pumpkin Patch also offers a plethora of fun activities including farm animals, pony rides, train rides, obstacle courses, and pumpkin tossing.

Fall Beer Festivals

If you’re a fan of frothy, malty adult beverages, then BREWPUBLIC’S Killer Beer Week is right up your alley. Fall in Portland means it’s time for 10 days of not-to-miss beer events. All the activities start on October 20, and here are a few to note:

  • Killer Pumpkin Fest at Rogue Ales & Spirits (October 21 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.) Fall isn’t fall without pumpkin beer. Enough said.
  • Killer Matt Fest + Cribbage at the BeerMongers (October 24 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.) All the beer that’s being served here will be from brewers named Matt. Hilarious!
  • Killer Beer Week Recovery Beerunch at Tourant (October 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) You’ll get extra special beer selections along with a delicious meal!

West Coast Pumpkin Regatta

No joke! The pumpkin regatta is real, and it’s a staple of fall in Portland. For 13 years, Pumpkin Regatta enthusiasts from the Pacific Northwest and beyond have been descending upon the Tualatin Commons to watch giant pumpkins race across a lake. (People are sitting inside the pumpkins. The pumpkins themselves don’t come to life.)

In addition to the race, there will also be activities, entertainment, food, and souvenirs. Certainly, this is where you’ll want to be on October 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.!

At this point, you might be wondering why an apartment community cares so much about things like the best ways to spend fall in Portland. Well, we believe that home is more than just a place to live, it’s about having living life through worthwhile experiences.

It’s the reason why we chose the location we did. Not only are we next to the gorgeous recreational spaces of the South Waterfront Greenway, but also we’re just 10 minutes from downtown and OHSU. It’s also why we encourage a connection to community with amenities like our Eastside Terrace and Central courtyards, well-appointed Community Lounge, and Bike and Outdoor Storage and Gear rooms. If you’re looking for a 2 Bedroom apartment in Portland Oregon that’ll allow you to experience the best of what PDX has to offer, Osprey is undoubtedly your best bet!
