7 Reasons Why You Should Live in the South Waterfront

Have you heard the news? The South Waterfront is the hottest thing since sliced bread! Okay, maybe those aren’t the exact words everyone uses describe our beloved neighborhood. But, it is true that the South Waterfront is a big deal….so much so that Osprey’s apartments in Portland’s South Waterfront are one of the most sought-after communities in the City.

There’s so much going on in our neck of the woods, we barely have enough time to cover it all in our blog. So, with all the amazing developments that have taken place, we thought it was worth taking the time to list out some of the best reasons you should Live in the South Waterfront.

  1. A Fantastic Neighborhood With an Interesting History

A lot has happened over the years to shape the South Waterfront into the perfect area for our Portland apartments. Some suggest humans occupied it 8,000 years ago, but official history books show the Chinookan natives lived, loved, and traded there in 1500 B.C. After that, there were years of European settlement, which set the stage for the 1800s timber industry that was the lifeblood for Oregonians.

Fast forward to the early 20th century and the tenure of the Zidell Family begins. Through ship dismantling and eventually barge leasing and construction, the Zidells became an integral part of the South Waterfront economy. Today, the Zidells are still active and are actually involved in a massive renovation that is turning the area near our Portland South Waterfront apartments into a beautifully landscaped, bustling public space.

2. Great Places to Grab a Bite In The South Waterfront

The Pacific Northwest and coffee go hand in hand. Luckily, for people who live in the South Waterfront, there are places like Upstream Coffee. Not only is the coffee delicious, there are also delectable concoctions like matcha lattes and homemade horchata.

There’s also Oracle Coffee, which just opened up right around the corner from Osprey Apartments. Oracle is cool because it’s a multi-roaster coffee shop, serving from various up and coming roasters from all around the country. So there’s always something new to try, and Oracle’s dedication to the bean means that the coffee is always delicious. 5. An Enviable Summer Farmers Market

Market is truly one of the most special things about the South Waterfront in the Summer, and we’re happy to help celebrate it alongside the other sponsors. We have a booth at the market every 3rd Thursday of the month, so if you’re a fan of the Market and you’d like some more info on Osprey Apartments, feel free to stop by!

From June to October, the South Waterfront hosts a spectacular Farmers Market. Local farmers and vendors fill Elizabeth Caruthers Park every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. There’s a diverse selection of food and products – we’re talking donuts, German Sausage, vegan popsicles, kombucha, pet paw waxes, and so on. There’s also great live music.

6. Getting Your Exercise On

When you live in Portland South Waterfront Apartments, you have various ways of keeping your body healthy. In addition to the recreation and kayaking areas of the gorgeous Greenway, there are also multiple biking trails close by. Our favorites include the Waterfront Loop Trail, Leif Erickson Drive, Vera Katz Eastside Esplanade, and Spring Water Corridor. Plus, there are several nearby fitness centers to choose from:

  • OHSU March Wellness & Fitness Center
  • Waterfront Fitness
  • Orange Theory Fitness

7. An Awesome Apartment Community

As you can tell, we LOVE where we’ve made our home. There’s pretty much never a dull moment! But, of course, no lively area is complete without businesses that actually care about the community. This is why we at Osprey blog about the South Waterfront often –  to provide PDX-ers and residents of our Portland South Waterfront apartments with insight into the phenomenal experiences and events that are all around them.

Speaking of our apartments, we’d kick ourselves if we didn’t mention that our homes are centered on what Portlanders need and want. Our amenities and features are purposeful and promote a balanced lifestyle. For example, an onsite gym, as well as bike and outdoor gear storage rooms encourage a healthy way of life. Also, a community lounge and our Eastside Terrace and Central Courtyards help people connect with friends and family. Overall, we just want Portlanders to live right and be the best that they can be!
