On May 26, Tom McCall Waterfront Park will be the setting off an awe-inspiring fireworks display synchronized to music. You might even be able to spy them from our eastside terrace at our South Waterfront Apartments.  It’s not just a celebration of Memorial Day in Portland; it also marks the beginning of The Portland Rose Festival, which is an annual fair highlighting and celebrating the diverse and eclectic culture of Portland. The fireworks don’t start until 9:45 p.m. but while you wait, you can enjoy a free 8 p.m. concert being performed on the RoZone Stage.

After the May 26 fireworks, the Rose Festival CityFair will officially be underway. Every weekend until June 11, Tom McCall Park, right around the corner from Osprey’s South Waterfront Apartments,  will be home to a seemingly countless number of events and activities. It’s a great way for the whole family to enjoy Memorial Day in Portland. The kids will have fun with arts and crafts projects and exotic animal displays, and you’ll be entertained by the live music emanating from two different stages.

Check Out the Multnomah County Fair

From May 27 to May 29, the Multnomah County Fair will take over Oaks Amusement Park. Admission is completely free, and each day will be jam-packed with food, shows, activities and exhibits. Multnomah County has been doing this for over 100 years, so you know it’s going to be good!

Enjoy Some Top Notch Oregon Wines on the Cheap

When it’s Memorial Day in Portland, it’s time for wine festivals! The three different events being held over the holiday weekend will give you the chance to savor some of the best pinots that Oregon has to offer.

• On May 26, Hip Chicks do Wine will be pouring all of their wines from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. On May 27, you’ll have your pick of a tasting at Argyle Winery,
• Also on May 27th, you can do a wine and food pairing at Winderlea Estate Tasting Room.

Sample All the Gose Style Beer You Can Stomach

Not a wine person? That’s cool – Memorial Day in Portland is awesome for beer, too. On May 27 and 28, the City of Goses happens at LABrewatory. If you’re unfamiliar with the Gose style, it’s a German brewing technique that results in a deliciously fruity and tart beer. The event will feature 30 different Goses, so you’re sure to have a well-rounded drinking experience.

Maybe Even Hit the Slopes One Last Time

No joke. We’re talking about skiing in May. Currently, the snow is piled high at Mt. Hood, which means there are ski resorts offering up some amazing skiing during Memorial Day in Portland. Timberline Lodge is one such spot – they’re slated to keep their doors open until June 4. Additionally, over 200 acres of Mt. Bachelor is still open for some sun skiing until the end of May.
