Hodgepodge - National Pie Day

1. Do you have a word for the year (WOTY)? If so, and you'd like to share, please share. How do you decide on a word? If you don't have a word are you still on the hunt for one for 2024?

No.

2. January 23rd is National Pie Day...will you celebrate? Do you like pie? What's your favorite?

Maybe if I can remember to get out and buy a pie. (writing this on Tuesday.)

I Love pie. It’s hard to pick just one favorite. Lemon meringue, boysenberry, apple, peach, pumpkin, key lime, cream cheese…that’s all I can think of right off the cuff. My husband loves strawberry rhubarb pie.  At the Marie Callenders Restaurant, they have really good pies that you can order.

3. Tipping. What are your thoughts, expectations, as to who, when where? Do you appreciate a store/restaurant giving a 'suggested amount'? Have you ever left an extravagant tip?

I know how hard they work. A good waitress/waiter makes all the difference in your dining experience. And when one is exceptional, they stand out.

Extravagant tip? Once a year we “gift” a restaurant worker; usually at Christmas. This past year, it was on Christmas Day and we tipped the grill cook. I overheard him tell another cook that he was a Dad and that this job was his bread and butter and I just had that confirmation that he was the one. We were prepared and it was such a joy. I’d like to do this more. Maybe set up a tip account so we can save.

4. Share with us one household 'tip' that works for you.

See #5

5. Influencers on social media are people who've built a reputation for their knowledge and expertise on a particular subject. Do you follow any influencers online? Have you made a purchase or tried something new because of that 'influence'? If there's one you particularly enjoy tell us who they are and why you enjoy them.

From time to time I will tune in to a YouTube influencer - who are crafters and DIYers. A couple of years ago, I purchased a small handheld steamer that cleans soap scum off shower doors with ease, as well as under the toilet rim. I didn’t buy her brand but I checked around -  I’ve been pleased with the results and no more scrubbing! I use it to also clean my windows, stovetop, and oven.

But don’t let me influence you.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

The other day I got a phone call from the Netherlands. I didn't answer it.

The biopsies from my husband's procedure were cancer-free. I pretty much figured it was, because of the report that I read but still, it does linger in the back of the mind, and is good to have reassurance.

I had an IBS episode on Sunday before Church. I had those stomach pains, squeezing me from my lower back to my lower stomach and I threw up. It was a bad day for me - and I'm much better now but my tummy still feels like it is bruised from the inside out. Yeah yeah, I said I would go get it checked out - I will. I especially do not want any antibiotics. They really mess my gut up.
