Hodgepodge - 12/13/23

1. Oxford's Word of the Year for 2023 is 'rizz'. Hmmm...before today had you ever heard the word? Do you know what it means? (Apparently it's short for charisma) Have you ever used the word? If you were in charge of the world, what word would you declare word of the year for 2023?

Yes, I read about it last week. All I can say is DUMB.

I don't declare words for a New Year. I actually never heard of it before until recently.

2. What's one word you tend to abbreviate in your writing or speech? (as in rizz for charisma)

I don't remember. I'm sure I must and it will come to mind when I do it.

3. Are you a Hallmark Movie watcher this time of year? What's your favorite character from a holiday- themed movie, book, or TV special?

I feel like such a rebel - No I am not into Hallmark movies or movies that are similar. They make me feel uncomfortable. I mostly enjoy documentaries and historical dramas. There are some exceptions.

Right now I can't think of any holiday movie, book, or TV special that has a character I like. Sorry, I'm drawing a blank.

4. Something you look forward to eating this month?

My body is going through something - I'm losing weight without trying - I do not crave food and have to make myself eat. I get stomach cramping to full-on pain after I eat  - It comes and goes. Yesterday I was unable to go to my meeting, due to stomach pain that radiates to my back. I already had my gallbladder removed and I know I have diverticulitis - but the pain doesn't come from that side. I will make an appointment in Jan and since I will be turning 70 in March, I will get my physical and see what is up with my digestion.

5. What's the most stressful part of the holiday season for you?

People tend to stress me out when they are stressed. As a formerly stressed person, who used to get overwhelmed, I try and stay away from those who are all over the place. I don't want or need to be drawn in.

Emotionally I am feeling awesome. I don't feel rushed or under the gun. It's a great feeling.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

My son, Navy is friends with an 85-year-old Veteran. John never married and has no children. He has dementia. Navy is helping to locate his nephew for him - he talked with the social workers to find out the legalities. John gave my son the names of his parents. I then looked up on Ancestry and found the nephew. He is 53 years old. We are hoping to find an address for the nephew who had the Power of Attorney when John first entered the home - My son says he is watching the rapid decline of John who wishes to find his nephew.

It blows me away, how my 39-year-old son is so caring. It brings tears to my eyes. This isn't the first time he has done things like this. I do pray that we can give John some closure so he can rest easy and that his last family member will be notified when that time comes.

Thanks for dropping by this Hodgepodge Wednesday.
