First Things First

Made from corn husks

Happy Monday to you all. I hope you're all well.

I know a few of you have been a bit under the weather and pray you will be feeling better soon.

I still have beautiful red and orange leaves on my trees. Just seems like Thanksgiving and Autumn get rushed and are squeezed between two other events; Halloween and Christmas

My husband brought in his Hanukkah stuff along with the Nativities. The first night of Hanukkah is Thursday. Throughout the years I have enjoyed this holiday with my husband and like-minded friends. I now make some very tasty latkes that everyone enjoys. I have some fond memories of Margie and me, at the stove - she has her skillet of oil and I have mine and we both are standing there flipping latkes. The aroma of those potato delights is in the air, as you walk up to our house.

Let us not forget...

He placed all the various nativities on the bookshelf to display. He really enjoys his part in the "decking the halls". There was a time when I was a total control freak -  I was a stickler about certain things that had to go in certain places...After a couple of years of marriage I let go - and it's been great. I don't have to do it all and I have found contentment in that.

Tomorrow I guess I will start with more Christmas decorating. When packing up the Fall stuff, I did put aside some items to go to donation. Time to let some things be enjoyed by others. Plus the last couple of years, I hadn't even put these pieces out anymore. They weren't anything special - some crafts I had made that I had grown tired of.

Where will we put the tree?

I'm not looking forward to putting up the tree this year - because of that huge recliner chair that was given to us, earlier in the year. If I had thought about it earlier, I would have bought a skinny tree or done a couple of small ones instead of one big one. I could always give this tree to my son.   I was too laid back and didn't get it together to do that. So this might be our last year, having a big tree. I think this is the main reason I have put off the whole ordeal.

When you think of it, it's really fruitless to get my panties a bunch over such trivial matters as a tree, the recliner, and decorating. Every year I try not to get sucked into the frenzy that Christmas has become. I do pretty well because I still remember the stress in my young days, saying yes to everything and rushing through what is sacred and special and quite monumental - The birth of the Savior of the World.

This year I am done with my shopping. That has relieved me of unnecessary pressure. The only thing left to do is plan what we will be having for our Christmas dinner - and buy accordingly - and due to three of them working in the medical field, all will be working so we'll have our family gathering on Dec 23.

Yesterday we attended a Christmas Concert at the college. It was very enjoyable.  It's been years since I have gone to a symphony concert - I went to 2 concerts at the San Francisco Symphony in the 1970s with my work friends. It's so expensive now, so taking in the local college concerts is a real treat and it's affordable. I always enjoy watching the conductor.

That's it for me on this Fall day - It was a mild day close to 69 with sunshine. It does get nippy at night.

Take care - and if you're feeling under the weather, drink fluids and get some rest.
