Thank You for your Prayers

It's 3:21 pm on this nice Fall afternoon. It's 62 degrees and clear.

It took us a while to get to Fall and I'm not ready to "pretend" it's winter just yet.

These pomegranates are in the sideyard -

I picked off all the tomatoes - I should have done it a few days ago because we have had frost the last couple of days. I've got them on my windowsill so they can turn. We'll see.

Thank you for your prayers for my sister-in-law, Edith.

She is such a dear. She lives in Alabama but is originally from Eastern Tennessee - Appalachia. My brother was a Preacher - not a Pastor.  They are from the old mountain Holiness church which used to be prevalent in the Appalachia of old - they only sang and played bluegrass music - my brother played the banjo, the fiddle, mandolin, the dobro...most string instruments he could play. Edith sang and played the guitar. They are most like Pentecostals; the kind that dance and talk in tongues etc.

The first time I went back there,  they took me to their church. Wow, I had never seen anything like that. The music was awesome. I've always gravitated toward bluegrass because I heard it a lot as a young child and when I visited my grandparents in Eastern Tennessee. We have many bluegrass festivals here in Northern California.

That form of religion though is dying out. The young people don't care for it. All my nieces and nephews and their children,  like the bigger contemporary churches with contemporary music. The last time we were back there, we sat on the porch and they played music - and we all sang. Neighbors dropped by and would bring another instrument and it was quite the Jam. A really different culture than what I am used to. It was fun.

We discussed last night, about going back. We talked about driving back. It is 2457 miles. We'll play it by ear -  We could take Space A Travel - military flights on a first come first serve basis. My husband is retired so we can enjoy this privilege and have only used it once - he's used it several times before we married.  A couple of years ago, we went down to Travis AFB and took a workshop about how to travel all over the world, using Space A Travel along with military lodging. It would sure save us a lot of money as the flights are free for passengers - but you are flying in a cargo plane. You have to have TIME and is best if you are retired.

So at least I am now opening up to the possibility that I will have to leave my furbabies for a couple of weeks. 😢

Well, that's it for me today.

Take Care, Debby
