Danish Modern to Granny Chic

I started looking up 1960's Danish modern furniture. I didn't want to dig out old photos so these will have to suffice. What I remember about my childhood home was my mom loved the Danish modern furniture. Straight lines, beautiful walnut. Think modern or even beyond that like futuristic. The space program was in full gear and people loved that "atomic" look.

We had very similar blown glass knick-knacks...and big old ashtrays, because so many back then smoked. My parents didn't (my dad used to) so the big old ashtrays were just ornamental; a place to put the keys etc.

This is exactly like my mom's end table for their bedroom set. I know I don't have a picture of this.

The dresser but Mom had a mirror attached to it and then there was my dad's chest of bureau. Does anyone call them that anymore?

Similar to my mom's china cabinet and hutch. I never cared for it.

Too modern for me even as a teenager.

Granny Chic

Think, crocheted and knitted blankets - dollies, embroidery, cross stitch. Not just a little but everywhere!

Heck, Grandma would even crochet a toilet seat cover.

Carpeting in the bathroom and around the toilet was popular back then and now they are grandmas and they're still doing it. I confess I had wall-to-wall bathroom carpet in my bathroom - along with the bath mat and the complete tank cover, toilet lid cover, and the contoured toilet cover that was impossible to keep clean - I had 3 little boys!

I have to say I don't miss this trend at all.

I think this is kinda cute but not my style. But it does look comfy and I would enjoy sitting there with Granny - which is what Granny chic is all about - comfy like Grandma!

My Mom's style started changing in her later years. Was it because she was a Grandma? When we moved in here after she died, you wouldn't believe how much granny chic she had going. Lace curtains and crocheted blankets on the back of the sofa - it was comfortable but just not my (our) style.

Maybe bits and pieces...I still have some items.

A few granny-square crocheted quilts - lots of knick-knacks and keepsakes. Decorative dishes on the wall...

I have a bookcase like that - I got it for free off the side of the road years ago - I use it in my closet. The same scrolly design. A very heavy, wooden bookcase. Mine is white.

I have one of the old floral framed prints - that is in the photo. I like it but the frame is broken and I keep meaning to fix it.

And a true granny chic home wouldn't be complete without a cat or cats.

Or a little dog that barks.

Love the patchwork quilt on the back of the sofa. Pretty cards hung - as wall art. My maternal grandma did this.

Speaking of cats...Navy will drop by today after work to pick up Ed and Harry's Halloween goodie bags.

This is what you do when you don't have any grandchildren. 🤣

Seems pathetic but we're okay with it - I mean what else can we do? I can't stomp my feet and throw a hissy fit because I don't have grandkids. Anyway, with the way the kids are now, especially what we're seeing in the colleges it is probably for the best because it would break my heart.

💕The unconditional love and admiration cats and dogs give are the best. Plus they don't grow up to turn on the values they were raised with. Fortunately, my sons believe as I do, and for that, I might have done something right all those years, growing up in a "broken home."

Such some updates - The VA finally booked my husband's appointment with a gastrologist - the earliest appointment is MID_JANUARY! He's a little better but he still has the issue.

Today we decided it was time to do some exterior touch-up painting before it starts getting rainy. Today is a nice sunny mild day. I cleaned the floors, did some laundry, and now will be unpacking the throw rugs and washing them since it's that time of year. I guess there is a little granny chic in all of us.

Time to get back to my work - thanks for dropping by.
