My Day

This morning, I saw that my Mexican sunflower had bloomed.
They’re called Red Torch and it’s the golden flower of the Aztecs.
(even though it is red)

I have many left to bud so it will be quite the stunner when all has bloomed.

Who doesn't like red flowers?

Yeah, I will definitely plant these again next year.

This is what I used from Baker Street Heirloom Seeds.

Susie gets really relaxed after her morning brushing.

Cats are so funny. Susie makes me laugh at least once a day.

Last night when we went to bed, we had the windows open. She ran up and down the hallway, meowing...letting us know the wind was blowing.

Maybe she was freaked out -  the way the window curtain billows out from the breeze...

One Mickey Mouse Job leads to another

This is the old ceiling fan on the patio. My Husband was getting ready to put the new one up when he saw that whoever put this in decades ago, mickey-moused it. Installed it in a way that it would last forever.

It could have been my dad - I don't know.  It could have been my dad's best friend, Ernie who used to do electrical work for my dad. My dad always tried to get someone else to do that.

My husband had to saw the wood on both sides and then pry it off in a very awkward position.

Apparently, he is unable to get the ring thingy off, so he is going to have to do his own mickey-mousing. The holder thingy will stay and needs to be painted and he says he will make it work with the other pieces of the newer ceiling fan.

He was very frustrated and I had to tell him, to "watch it." because it could very well have been my dad.

My dad was a licensed Contractor but he wasn't a electrician.

I think Dad hired Ernie...so I'll pin it on him.

OH WELL.

I do remember my dad put carpet in the kitchen and dining area (my mom had fibromyalgia) and when he did that, he glued it to the floor. We found that out when we were putting in the wood floors.

Took us, twice as long.

Meanwhile, the painted one waits for its turn while alterations are made and the other piece dries...

I used a bronze spray by Rustolium that has a forged hammer look. I already had it on hand so it cost me nothing.

I didn't want it to look shiny and new -

I saved paint by only spraying the part that would show.

You can see how old those blades were - (and dirty and dusty)
The Glass Shades to the left are from the newer one. Reminds me of a tulip.

I was going to paint them - but will just let them "be" for a while - as I ponder if that would be a good look or not.

Of course, this drives my husband crazy - because I won't let him throw out the blades. I'm thinking about making a dragonfly. Easy peasy. One of the wooden blades had spilt so I'll let the husband throw that one out. All I need are 4 good ones.

The old glass shades - I put one over a Dollar Tree solar light and it fit.

Just need to wash it.

Gee, I just noticed how the outside rim of the pot is chipping. Oh well, that's a job for next year. The actual pot is fine.

If the shades were more smooth, this would be a cute idea for Halloween.

We're supposed to get some significant rain - one of those atmospheric rivers to come Monday and Tuesday along with more wind. This does not mean summer is over for us - but it does indicate that the battle between Summer and Fall has started.

On that note, I cleaned up my potting table - While this is a sheltered area of my yard, I had some projectiles that needed to be put away.  I made this a couple of years ago, using an old metal security screen door. I kept meaning to paint it etc. but I just never got around to it. It is great though, I just spray water and it goes right through.

If you've followed me for a while, hardly anything goes through my grubby little hands into the landfill. I save EVERYTHING with the hope of re-purposing it. Within reason of course. I have had to train my husband to see beyond the junk - he's doing better but I do have to watch him.

And Yes, Sherri, I would have been honored to take your old birdhouse

from you and fix it up!

I took my husband out for lunch - he has an old friend who owns a small Diner. So we went over there and sat at the counter so he could talk with Jose. I had a diner-style patty melt and fries. I'm telling you, there is something about an old-fashioned Diner.

Came home - he took a nap and I laid down for my 20-minute power nap and that has been my day so far.
