Lake Shasta Dinner Cruise

It's been a week since I last posted. Mainly due to the flooring in the office, moving out junk, and as of right now, we're still not back in, but it should be sometime today or tomorrow. We need help from our son to move the desk and file cabinet back in and that can only happen once he gets off work later this afternoon.

In the week I have accumulated some blog fodder that I can use for a couple of posts this week - so stay tuned.

Saturday, we enjoyed the Lake Shasta Dinner Cruise with my son and his wife, Sara. We had a wonderful time in spite of the heat. From 6pm to 8pm, we enjoyed the beautiful lake - cruising along and enjoying our kids as well as the other diners. We took the table on the edge of the boat - instead of packed in the middle plus it was a table for four - perfect for us.

There were 2 different types of marinated tri-tip, chicken, and shrimp.  2 different potato salads, fresh fruit, and roasted vegetables - and some salads which I didn't get to - I was enjoying the fruit. I had a chocolate mousse cheesecake.

What can I say? It had been a very hot day prior to boarding. We checked in by 5:15. Getting out of the air-conditioned car, hit me like a ton of HOT bricks. It seemed way more humid by and on the lake to me, even though it was only 28%. Still - I'm used to less than 10%. (to be continued tomorrow)

It was all so mentally refreshing to be out on the lake -

and relaxing.

We did seem to sit in the hot sun the whole time. The sun just kept finding us.

Since June which was the last time we were on the lake, the water levels have dropped 30ft. It is California's largest reservoir and we're a big state with water needs. I'm so old I can remember as a kid when it never got this low this fast in the summer - since the 60s/70s - I did the math. We have doubled the size of the population since 1970.

So yeah, the levels will be a significant drop.

Cruised around all the "arms"  and inlets of the lake. There are many arms - from the Pit River, McCloud River, and the Sacramento River.

Kinda freaky to know all the little old mining towns that are now underneath. I wish they were still here so we could see our history.

29,500 acres only accessible by boat. We saw many bald eagles in the trees. The boat Captain mentioned if you look at the trees, you will see their white head - After telling us that, we saw so many of them. I didn't get a photo but I believe my husband did and I will get that from him if it turned out.

We even had some drama. This boater was driving very fast and kept going around us - around and around pulling some kids on a tube. He seemed like he was drunk. So through a loudspeaker, they gave him a warning - then another warning. This drunk kept going faster and closer to our boat.

The other vessel was trying to link up to us - this is the kitchen. And so this jerk was keeping us from our food delivery as well as making it very dangerous with the waves he was making. Poor Sara has bad motion sickness and she wasn't liking this at all.

Once the Captain, read back his hull number to him - and told him he was going to alert the Shasta County Sheriff - he backed up and went on his way.

Dinner was then served and was delicious. Met some nice people from other areas of the country which always surprises me. Talked with a couple from Paradise. We talked about the fires on Maui and how it stirred up some PTSD in her and that she was surprised. Some similarities - like only one road out. The videos also made me think of Paradise as well.

They lost everything - but what she has grieved about the most are the friends and neighbors that moved away and one died. She said she used to be surrounded by a forest of trees - now she had a meadow of flowers.

Many were celebrating birthdays and anniversaries.

We're heading back - it was such a nice evening.

Stay tuned to what happened after I got off the boat! That's for tomorrow.
