A mixed bag

The last of the old-time crooners -
He was and always will be a San Francisco Favorite.

Wow, look at this beaut!   This was up at the trail we went on just a couple of weeks ago. After I saw the terrain, I knew there were rattlesnakes. Then I saw the sign. I tried my best to overcome the fear but decided it was best to turn back.

They are coming out from hiding to bask in the hot summer sun. With our temperatures 111/112 it is desert HOT/DRY with humidity less than 10%.

So I stay inside. A friend gave me these little treats I never had before. Fun to eat and they are tasty. They were in a subscription gift box she gets monthly from Japan.

I checked and saw they have them at Target and of course through Amazon.

I have been spending some time in the back room - came across this photo of my son, Michael, and actor and founder of Little People of America, Billy Barty. He was a character actor when Hollywood needed his expertise. He was quite enamored with my son, because of his wit and recommended Michael to try out for the George Lucas movie Willow. (a small part)

When we were contacted by George Lucas films I had a lot of questions. The movie came out in 1988 but it was a couple of years before that - the early beginnings of the project. Michael was 9 or 10 at that time. As a Mom, I had a lot of questions. Michael really wanted to try out for it - I was not for it at all. What Mom in their right mind, would want to lose her kid to Hollywood? When they told us, that filming in Wales could take months, there was no way I would allow my son to go there without me.  So we passed on it.

Billy Barty as the High Aldwin

I always wondered if Michael regretted it and he always was gracious enough to say, that he had no regrets. He was always interested in acting and he did join up with the Screen Actors Guild while in college  - and was in one movie with Matthew McConaughey about Little People, along with some local television.

UPDATE on Foodie

He goes back one week from today for another x-ray of his humerus. He's doing fine and has handled the pain without any OTC and opiate drugs. That's not to say, he's not in any pain, but he says it is doable and when you know you aren't able to get any painkillers, you cope.

He is bored out of his gourd. He's such an outdoor adventure guy and to be grounded is driving him crazy. He is planning to go camping this week - no backpacking. My husband might go with him. But the bottom line, is he's an adult and he knows what he can and cannot do - so it's on him. I do trust he won't take any chances. In the past, he has taken some risks while climbing mountains - that I get to hear about afterward that amaze me. I have come to terms with both my sons and their adventurous pursuits - so I will leave it at that.

Not much has been happening - It's just that time of the summer when no one is out except for the rattlesnakes and crickets! We are able to sit outside in the morning on our patio - watch the birds and drink our coffee. Poor Laydee only went swimming once this week. Maybe we can get to the lake this weekend, although I don't like going on the weekends - that is for work-day people.

I hope you all have a most enjoyable, relaxing, and adventurous weekend.
