Summer Vacation Car Trips - probably 1958.

Taking a car trip back to Tennessee, up through to my mom's mother in Dayton Ohio -  visited my dad's older brother in Greenville, Ohio, then to my Great Great Aunt Margaret in Arcanium Ohio. then over to Indiana where 2 aunts moved to - and up to Detriot, Michigan where my Dad's other brother and his family lived.

The interstate highways had not been invented yet and so it was like Route 66 everywhere - you always rolled through a small town; ate at the local diner. Sometimes we'd get behind a tractor for miles - my dad trying to pass and my mom freaking out that we'd have a head-on collision.

I believe this Photo was taken in the Nevada desert in 1958/1959. I remember it was HOT. Dad was probably cooling the car off.

Not that I need to give any reasons why I am doing a lot of remembering - I am writing my growing up story for my sons - to age 18. Then I plan to get it all printed out for just the two of them - I'm using Blogger just because it is simpler and then I will transfer it over when I am ready.

This will not be done in a few days...I just write it like I talk and I believe they will enjoy it.

I'm doing this because Foodie had mentioned to me a few months back, that I seemed to have always lived on the cusp of many interesting happenings. (Haven't we all?) He wanted to know more about it. So along with the help of old photos, I am telling my story.  Photos help your memories. Just between you and me, there will be some things, that my sons do not need to know. They are my privately-owned happenings that are embedded in my memories - some good and some that I am downright ashamed of - I was a bit on the wild side for a time.

It's been fun but sometimes I need to take a break - Some nights, I have the strangest dreams...

I forgot to add this to yesterday's post about my family's first color tv set. They don't make them like they used to.

All is well here - I was awfully tired today having spent all day yesterday running around, doing my errands and Foodie's errands. I didn't get back home till close to 4pm. I'm not used to being out that long - wears me out.

Laydee went swimming at the Lake this afternoon. She is now crashed out - We can't help but get wet as well. The water was nice and refreshing. It's so nice to have a beautiful lake that is full again.  Next month we're going on that dinner cruise on the Lake with Navy and his wife. It starts at 6pm and is about 2 hours. A buffet-type meal - we can bring our own booze, beer, wine, etc.

  • Maple Bourbon Tri-Tip
  • Chardonnay Chicken
  • Pineapple BBQ Chicken
  • Garlic-Pepper Shrimp
  • Sweet-Asian-Honey Shrimp
  • McCloud Vegetable Medley

  • Artisan Bread with butter and Cave Dip
  • Garden Salad with choice of dressing
  • Broccoli Salad
  • Red, White & Blue Potato Salad
  • Mustard Potato Salad
  • Sauteed Mushrooms
  • Green Beans
  • Four Bean Salad

I'm really looking forward to it.

Now I'm hungry - we're having pork chops and sweet potatoes - and probably some zucchini since we are up to our armpits in the green squash.  Time to bake a loaf of yummy zucchini bread...

That's All Folks -

Debby
