A fire in Weed, Ca

Tags: weed lumber
69 miles away - or an hour's drive north.

Around 1pm yesterday there was an explosion at the Lumber mill in the small town of Weed, north of us.

I dug out some old photos I had of Weed.

Many people think, Weed Ca is named after "weed" but it is not and many of the oldtimers don't like it.

The City of Weed derives its name from the founder of the local lumber mill and pioneer Abner Weed, who discovered that the area's strong winds were helpful in drying lumber. In 1897, Abner Weed bought the Siskiyou Lumber and Mercantile Mill and 280 acres of land in what is now the City of Weed, for $400.[5] By the 1940s Weed boasted the world's largest sawmill.

And because the area is also known for Maraijuna grows, it became a mecca for anything "weed" like t-shirts and paraphilia.

The surrounding area used to be lush with trees

Sometimes it looks like you have stepped back into time.

An old abandoned gas station -

We'll be seeing more of these after 2035.

PRAY for the town of Weed
