Yippee Yupo

Ha! Finally - something that looks a bit like everyone else's yupo & ink creations (of which I'm extremely envious), instead of looking like the usual hot mess I get when working with inks.

I created a background wash of yellow, red umber & green, dotting on the inks and then wiping them over quickly with a bit of kitchen towel. I then dropped in blobs of ink and moved them around a little with a paintbrush and a cotton bud, dropping alcohol in here & there and spraying tacky areas with a mist of water (esp the green area in the top right corner),

I picked up excess liquid with kitchen towel, using a mixture of dabbing the surface with a scrunched up towel or wicking the liquid out so's not to disturb the existing colour/pattern.  The runs of yellow and brown came from wetting the ink with alcohol and water and then standing the paper so the ink tracked downwards.  The ink is completely dry, but has a lovely sheen on the areas which were sprayed with water.

I used a mixture of Letraset and Adirondack inks. (Ah, Letraset!  Anyone remember making posters about a hundred years ago*, ruling out the line spaces and then rubbing on the preferred Letraset lettering by hand with a little burnishing tool?  The glory days!)

* Oh, alright - about 35 years ago.  Seems longer, somehow.
