The End of the World as We Know It.

Another school is in ruins today as it's principal was shot and killed Friday. This time a 9th grader is suspected of being the criminal, he is in custody. September has been a month of tears my friends. We seem to be losing the war on terror in our own backyard more than across the ocean.

I can't believe these things now, it makes my other post about not needing extra security in schools look foolish, but it shouldn't be. We still need to focus on teaching, not preventing learning with distractions. Yes, this horrible tragedy makes way for heightened security all over Americas schools. I still don't think it should be the focus, it needs to be on mental prevention, not physical.

As we increase security, the crimes will get more devious and horrible. It's the nature of the business. Crime is now, and always has been, a business. A result of the American dream. Look at the movie "Goodfellas". I love that movie, because it shows what happens over a lifetime, not just a week or two. In movies and TV shows I like to see what happens now and in the future as a result of someones choices. Consequences are the most interesting part of life.

What are the consequences for a student shooting a principal? First degree intentional homicide. The kid was 15. I can't imagine thinking about even doing things like that when I was 15. All I wanted to do was collect all the inspector gadget pieces at McDonald's, and go to Darien Lake. Possibly go over to a friends house, and get the cute girl I liked. Nothing like shooting people.

I think it really has to deal with how we are raised. This kid was raised in a small town, with a K-12 school and a community of 300 people. 300 people? My graduation class was more than that. You would figure that the kid probably didn't get enough attention or something, but why not? The student to teacher ratio is probably close to 10:1. How could no one notice the kids apparent death wish? My guess is that no one cared.

That's most of the problem. People don't love one another anymore. Dreams are different now. It's too easy to get what you want, you no longer have to earn a thing, if you take the life of crime that is. Sure money is everything, but love and happiness is better.

It's times like these I want to make a difference. I want to become a political guy, I want to attend a rally supporting teachers, but I want good ones. My teachers were great, they taught me alot, not just knowledge, but how to be a good person. I looked up to the people that had it all together, I wanted to be just like them.

Now I work and go to school, and live frugal, working on becoming something (I still don't have any idea). Life throws us a curve ball, we need to keep on swinging, cause sometimes we're going to hit it right on the money. If we give up and just keep taking strikes, we'll be out before too long. Sorry, it's almost October, so baseball is good.

My condolences go out to the family of the Principal, and the community all together. I hope they can get past this, but I fear they wont.
