Audi’s h-tronn Concept at Detroit

Audi introduced a Concept crossover h-tron quattro with a hydrogen propulsion. The debut of the allroad took place at the Detroit Auto Show.

The overall length of the five-door car is 16 feet, the width is 6.33 feet and the height is 5.05 feet. For the sake of improving the aerodynamic performance, the traditional outside mirrors have been replaced the use of a Rear view camera.

The Prototype has been equipped with the entirely new power plant, two electric motors in the h-tron quattro, one up front that makes 122-horsepower, and one in the rear that produces 192-horsepower. Power lithium-ion battery weighing 60 kilograms, is located under the passenger compartment, capable of short time (for example, under heavy acceleration) to increase the output for another 136 horsepower.

The prototype is able to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in less than seven seconds, and its top speed is 124 mph. The new fuel cell stack is fuelled by hydrogen held in three carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, 700bar tanks, one in the space of the traditional transmission tunnel and smaller ones mounted across the car beneath the rear seat and the boot floor. The stack consists of 330 individual cells and develops a nominal 110kW of electricity.

Moreover, the energy is provided by a heat pump, located in the cabin, and a large solar panel installed on the roof. Every year they are able to produce an additional 320 watts, the equivalent of about one thousand kilometers.

A system of independent control has been used on Audi h-tron quattro, which should debut in 2017 on the flagship model of the next generation A8. In particular, the prototype is able to move independently and perform maneuvers on the highway at speeds up to 37 miles per hour.

Interior design of the prototype is very similar to the interior of the electrical crossover e-tron quattro, shown in September 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The concept has received three large touch screens, which use OLED-technology, as well as the steering wheel with touch-sensitive surface. Finally, one of the functions that the car is equipped allows to control the car by gestures.
