2017 Hybrid BMW 5 Series Spotted

BMW is preparing two rechargeable hybrid version of its updated 5-Series (G30) – 530e and 540e. Both models should be available next year after the debut of the main part of the family updated at the Paris Motor Show.

BMW Blog journalists reported that both models will use the Power Plant from the 330e as their base, however they will have increased capacity to meet the extra weight and size of the 5 series.

The BMW 530e will use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine working with an Electric Motor. The Combined Power output of a power plant is estimated at about 280 hp. One time charge will let the car pass at least 35 km and a Maximum Speed of cars in the purely electric mode will be 120 km/h. The standard 530E will be rear wheel drive, the all-wheel drive version will be available only as an option.

BMW 540e will be equipped with four-cylinder petrol TwinPower Turbo with a VANOS timing system, changing the position of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft. Valvetronic variable valve timing and High Precision Injection systems will work together with VANOS. The engine is expected to generate 258 hp and the electric motor will provide 95 hp. The combined power of 540e will be around 325 hp.

Cruising range of the BMW 540e is slightly less than the 530e – about 30 km, and the maximum speed will be the same 120 km/h. The car will receive a nine-automatic transmission and a rear-wheel drive as standard (xDrive is an option).
