Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce a new generation of C-Class in 2020. All the details about the car are kept secret. However Mercedes-Benz U.S. International CEO Jason Hoff hinted that the new Sedan will receive more aluminum and will use advanced new joining processes installed into its U.S. manufacturing plant. This car will be significantly lighter than its predecessor.

Reduced vehicle weight will cut fuel consumption and reduce harmful emissions. The new sedan development plans to actively use the techniques of laser welding, riveting and bonding. The exact weight of the new Mercedes is unknown. At the moment, the lightest version of the current generation is the entry-level C160 model that weighs 3,075 pounds without any optional equipment.

Currently the upgraded version of Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan is out for road tests. The fifth-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class is expected to arrive before the end of the decade. The main competitors of the new sedan will be the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Jaguar XE. The restyled C-Class will get a different grille, chrome side skirts, revised air intakes and different bumpers. Also, some changes are expected in the cabin of the sedan. Mechanically, the C-Class will carry on with gasoline- and diesel-burning four-cylinder engines. Buyers will be asked to choose between rear- and all-wheel drive.

The debut of the current generation C-Class sedan was held at the Geneva Motor Show in 2014. The sedan is based on the new MRA platform, which is wider and longer than the one that lies at the basis of the previous version of the model. Mercedes-Benz C-Class chassis is made of light materials resulting a significant reduction of the overall weight of the vehicle. One of the most popular models of the brand received a turbocharged petrol and diesel engines as well as hybrid installation. Some of the modifications are completed with all-wheel drive system.
