2018 Audi A5 Convertible Spied In Spain

2018 Audi A5 Convertible Spied In Spain

Although Audi has covered the entire body of the car with its trademark camouflage, it’s not difficult to guess what kind of car it is. It’s the new A5 Cabriolet. This convertible will be another car completing the A5 line after the debut of Audi A5 and S5 coupes.

The prototype that was being tested in Spain, did not escape from spies and, judging by the photos, it will follow the A5 and S5 footsteps. If talking about the differences, the latest coupe will vary from the A5 Cabriolet only by the absence of the hard top, which will be replaced with folding canvas top.

Like the new A5 and S5 Coupe, the A5 also will use the MLB Evo platform. And since the architecture has helped the fixed-roof A5 shed some 130 lbs and deliver an increase in torsional rigidity, this should work wonders for the Cabriolet.

Almost certainly, the cabriolet will inherit all the performance improvements from the new coupe, as well as from the charged S5 version, which should make its debut along with the regular A5 Cabrio. It is expected to see a turbocharged 349 hp 3.0-liter V6 TFSI powerplant under the hood. This engine is enough for the S5 Coupe to accelerate the car up to the first “hundred” in 4.7 seconds, but the cabriolet will most likely be a bit slower due to the weight.

The public debut of the new Audi A5 Cabriolet is expected at the Paris Motor Show this fall, and the sales will start at the end of this year or early next year. However, it’s more exciting to see the Sportback which should turn out to be one sexy four-door coupe and in S5 guise will be quite the stunner. There are also rumors about an RS5 Sportback which hopefully will materialize.
