“Engine of the Year 2016” international competition has recognized the twin-turbocharged 3.9-Liter V8 Engine of the Italian Ferrari as the best engine of 2016. The jury evaluating various engine parameters – environmental friendliness, fuel economy and dynamic performance, includes 62 automotive journalists from more than thirty countries around the world.

To be more precise, in addition to the recognition of the absolute best engine of the year (the engine received 331 points), Ferrari won in three categories with this engine: Best New Engine, Best Performance Engine and Best 3.0 to 4.0 liter Engine. The engine is used in several models of Ferrari – 488 GTB, 488 Spider and California T. Another winner from the Italian automaker was the spectacular 6.3-liter V12 from the F12tdf for Above 4.0-Liter section.

The last year’s winner, BMW’s i8 PHEV hybrid powerplant took the second place, Porsche’s new straight-six turbo in the Carrera, the 911 Carrera 4, 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S was at the third.

Ford’s three-cylinder EcoBoost won the most low-volume engine for the fifth time in a row. This engine is used in Fiesta, B-Max, Focus, C-Max, Grand C-Max, Mondeo, EcoSport.

Peugeot’s 1.2 liter three cylinder turbocharged engine won in the category of 1.0 to 1.4 liters class. With its top three finish in this year’s awards, the BMW 1.5 liter hybrid in the i8 takes the win for the 1.4 to 1.8 liter category. Getting the top spot for the 1.8 to 2.0 liter class is the 2.0 liter turbo from Mercedes-AMG. Fitted in the A45, CLA45 and GLA45, turbocharged engine puts out 360 PS and 450 Nm of torque in the A45 and CLA45. Output in the GLA45 is rated at 381 PS and 475 Nm of torque. Audi took the win in the 2.0 to 2.5 liter class with their 2.5 liter five-cylinder turbocharged engine. The award for the 2.5 to 3.0-liter engines category was awarded to Porsche’s turbocharged engine.

The last award “The Best Green Engine” went to fully electric drivetrain by Tesla Model S and Model.
