New BMW 5-Series To Be Unveiled This Week

While BMW is preparing for the official debut of the new 5-Series, tireless paparazzi are trying to do everything possible to declassify the new BMW: they were lucky this time – the still shots give us a closer look at the headlights, taillights and interior design.

As expected, the salon of the new 5 Series is nearly identical to its big brother: the same gear selector to the 7-Series as well as the same central rotary dial. The air conditioning, heating and radio control are also remarkably similar to those of the 7-Series, as are the central air vents. If we talk about the differences from the current model, first of all, the new screen infotainment system on the side of the dashboard should be mentioned. By the way, the decision is almost similar to what can be seen in the new 7-series.

The design of the new BMW 5-series will be mainly an evolution of the current model, but the major changes of the updated model is expected not in appearance or in the cabin – the 2017 BMW 5 Series will be based on the CLAR (A play on “Cluster Architecture”) rear-wheel drive platform of the BMW 7 Series, and would shed up to 100 kg, which should have a positive impact on the productivity and effectiveness of 5-series.

2017 BMW 5-series will have a range of engines including 2.0-liter 4 cylinder and 3.0-liter straight-six diesel as well as petrol engines. A plug-in hybrid powertrain will also be available in the all-new 5 series. Transmission choices may include 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic, while the xDrive all-wheel drive system will be available on select models up the variant walk.

The 5 Series will have some very heavy competition as the Mercedes-Benz W213 E-Class is the brand’s technological flagship and a widely lauded car. The next Audi A6 will debut next year and is aiming to put the squeeze on its rivals with a new styling direction and technology as well.
