The new luxury sedan Audi with three electric motors, generating more than 400 horsepower and the latest stand-alone control system will go on sale in 2020. The information about the all-wheel-drive coupe-like electric sedan, which will compete with the Tesla Model S, was confirmed by the company’s boss Rupert Stadler.

Luxury SUV, which will most likely receive the name Audi A9 e-tron, will have much of its technology with the Q6 e-tron. A9 e-tron will be able to travel up to 311 miles at a single charge, which is roughly the same distance the recently revealed Tesla Model S P100D can go without recharging.
“By 2020, we will have three electric vehicles in the line-up. We will start with the production version of the e-tron quattro concept car, which will have a range of up to 500 km (310 miles). By 2025, 25% of our lineup will be battery-driven models.”- Stadler told Autocar.
Although Stadler has not officially announced anything about the Audi A9 e-tron, he only told about the future of the large electric sedan, which will take a place above the A8. Previously it was assumed that the name A9 planned to use for the four-door coupe, which could compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Bentley Continental GT. But now the company’s plans have changed: the luxury electric car will compete with the Tesla Model S.
The starting point for the new Audi is the EV platform showcased by the e-tron quattro concept at Frankfurt motor show last year. The luxury EV sedan will also share much of its technology with the Q6 e-tron SUV. The A9 will be powered by three electric motors, two on the rear wheels and one on the front axle that will draw power from a liquid-cooled 95kWh battery bolted to the floor below the passenger compartment. In the e-tron quattro concept, three electric engines produce a combined 429bhp, with a second, sportier drive mode is able to temporarily increase that to 496bhp and lift peak torque to 590lb ft.
