Our Back to School Checklist for Parents

The School holidays are nearly over..

It's nearly that time again, the summer holidays are nearly over and its time to prep those little terrors for school. An emotional time for some parents and a huge relief for others! The last week of the holidays is always a rush, stressing over lost uniforms, PE kits, pens, pencils, calculators, protractors, compasses and the other 101 thinks on the School Checklist that always get lost within the first week of term. How many did you forget?

With all this to cram into an already busy schedule for most parents, it can be difficult to remember some of the things you were supposed to be doing outside 'back to school' time. With this in mind, we have created our own fun back to school checklist for parents..

1. Relax

And breathe... You have survived 7 long weeks. Put your feet up, put the kettle on and take in the peace and quiet.

2. Plan for

It’s almost Christmas, sorry! We’re not sure why, but the months between September and December seem to fly by and before we know it, we’re knee deep in Christmas lists, preparations and excited Children. Now’s the time to start writing those lists and saving the pennies.

3. Get Organised

You know that feeling on the first day of term? That smug feeling of having all the School uniform laid out neatly, brand new shoes and PE kits waiting by the door? If you’re anything like us, despite our best intentions, that usually goes to pot on about day 4. Not this year! We love this idea of having everything ready in draws for the week ahead.

4. Plan next years holiday

One of the best bits about going on holiday is planning it. There’s nothing like flicking through brochures of sandy beaches with a cup of tea when it’s blowing a gale outside. We prefer the hot sandy beaches, but for those of you that cannot wait, the Ski season is almost upon us!

5. Catch up with a Friend - child free!

Indulge in a good cup of coffee, lots of cake and put the world to rights with your best friend. Those trips to Costa are much more relaxing with no little ones around.

6. Out with the old - Shopping trip!

It’s time to pack away the summer clothes, paddling pools and deck chairs for another year. An excuse for a shopping trip is never needed, but with the weather taking a turn for the worst, its time to invest in a new jacket and pair of boots.

7. Do something new

Fancy selling some junk on eBay? Always wished you could speak a bit of French? Whether it’s photo editing or perfecting that recipe, there is always something new to grab your interest. Start a new hobby!

8. Invest in you

Whether it’s a new nail varnish, a new outfit or a day put aside to read a good book, investing a little time in yourself is always a good idea.

9. Make a list

Do you have a list of odd jobs in your head that you’d really like to get done one day, but never quite get around to it? Take some time to put them all in a list and aim to tick off one job every day. Whether it’s sorting out the sock draw, sorting some new lego storage or defrosting the freezer, there’s nothing like the satisfaction of ticking off a task list.
