4 Successful Fly Fishing Techniques

4 Successful Fly Fishing Techniques | DoItYourself.com

Fly fishing techniques use artificial flies, a fly rod and fly line to catch Fish. It can be done in both salt water and fresh water.

1- False Casting Technique

This technique involves moving the rod back and forth without really Casting. It enables the fly fisher to help position the cast, to dry wet flies, to lengthen the line and control the cast. The weight of the line casts the fly where you want it to go. There weight on the end of the Fishing line is very small.

2- Making the Fly Move

When the cast is released, the fly lands on the water much like the natural landing of an insect. Once the fly has landed it slips under the water. When the fly is underwater, try wrapping the fishing line around two fingers to make the fly appear to be moving.

3- Playing with the Fish

Playing with the fish is an option if you get a nibble on your line. Move the fly up and down or back and forth making the fly look like it is moving naturally and fooling the fish to eat it.

4- Practice Casting

Both beginner and seasoned Fly Fishers can develop their Techniques through practice. Practice casting in an open field is a good place for beginning fly fishers. Be sure to be far enough away from any trees or objects, to prevent getting the caught.
