The Fickle Stitch

Tired. Tired. TIRED!!!
I don't understand it, at all. I went to bed early, last night. By no later than 10pm, I was tucked away, under my blankets. And, I know I slept well. I woke up at half past 6, and started my morning with coffee. Surely, coffee would help. I watched the news. (By the way, I am SO over hearing about the stupid CARMAGEDDON! I mean, really? The 405 was shut down, for the weekend. It isn't the end of the world. It turns out, that everything was great. People didn't seem to mind. Now, it is open again. Let's just drop it! But no...The news will milk it, like it was this HUGE, DEVASTATING ordeal. It is ridiculous!) I tinkered around with my loom, for a bit. I came to the computer, did some school work.
Now, here I am...Writing a post. And, I am BEAT! Seriously, I think that after I write, I may just need to nap. How pathetic is that?
Maybe I will get a sudden boost of energy. We shall see.
So, I don't think I mentioned this yet. Maybe I did. I don't know...
Anyway, a few days ago, I got my totally rockin' crochet hook, in the mail. It is a wooden hook. I know I talked about it, after I ordered it. But, now I will talk about it, some more. It is just plain awesome. While not the cute little crochet hook, with the pumpkin-sheep on it, that I still want so friggin bad, it is great. It is longer, than all of my aluminum hooks, and will not fit in the hook case my mother got me, this past Christmas. And, the handle of it, is as thick as the clay handle, of my other cool hook. Yes! I will definitely LOVE using this hook, to work the Cross Stitch & Picot Afghan. My goal: Get super nifty crochet hooks, to eventually replace all of the aluminum ones. It will take some time. But, I will get there.
In other cool news...
I should be getting the yarn, I purchased from Hobby Lobby, any day now. This past Saturday, there was one of those little yellow cards, in my mail. You know, the ones that let you know you have a parcel, that you were not able to sign for. Yadda, yadda, yadda. I signed it, and put it back in the mail. So, I am expecting my yarn either today, or tomorrow. And, I am SUPER excited! I swear...Any time I get yarn in the mail, I get all giddy. It just makes my day!
So, let us talk about yesterday.
I must have walked a total of 3 miles (no lie!). There was the trip to the mall, where my mother and I covered quite a bit of ground. Sadly, I left the mall, without the purchase of new shoes. But, I got quite a bit of exercise in. And still, I am holding my personal record, of going fall-free. By the time we left the mall, my feet were KILLING me. But, I went without falling. And, I had walked enough, to feel proud.
We got home, at about 3pm. I made my way to my blue recliner, where I thought I would get straight to work, with the mystery goodie.
Instead, I had to take mini nap.
After the nap, I grabbed my loom, and the gray wool, and I got busy.
Now, I will say this mystery goodie, is worked in garter stitch.
And, I have come to find the garter stitch, to be rather fickle.
Some patterns have directions, that write the garter stitch as such: Row 1: Knit, Row 2: Purl. Then, you have other patterns, that switch it around: Row 1: Purl, Row 2: Knit. Seriously? I just don't really get the whole point, of switching the knit/purl pattern around? Does it really make that big a difference? Or, is it just another attempt, to keep yarnies stressed out, and on their feet, at all times?
For the Felted Handbag, I had worked in the knit then purl. Now, I am purling first, knitting second. And, I have to admit, it is very confusing. I am just not ok, with this fickle stitch.
Good news...
I am HALF-WAY done, with the mystery project. Hopefully, I can finish it up today. That would just totally rock!
After working on this project for a bit, I went to take my bath. Then dinner. And finally, after some TV time, I worked on the birthday blanket.
And, let me just say...
This blanket has a strange type of power. Every single day, for the past week, when I work on it, it exercises its power. I can be wide awake, when I first start the row, for the day. But, half-way through, it will hit me. I will suddenly become very tired. I find it almost IMPOSSIBLE to keep my eyes open.
I think it is because the blanket is now large enough, to cover a good part of my body, as I work on it. And, it is just so nice and cozy, that it completely relaxes me, to the point of sedation. In fact, last night, I was no more than 15 stitches away, from finishing the row, and I just nodded off completely. I only woke up, because one of the dogs barked, and scared the hell out of me.
Yes! This blanket is PERFECT! I can guarantee my sister is going to LOVE it. She has a very hard time going to sleep, most nights. And, if this blanket casts the same sleep spell on her, as it does on me, I can guarantee she will NEVER use another blanket, EVER again.
Funnier still. As soon as I put the blanket down, the sleepiness instantly goes away. I don't get it. I don't even try to. I just chalk it up, as a bizarre yarn phenomenon.
I watched a bit more TV, then called it a night.
I climbed in my bed, and pulled my quilt over me. I also grabbed the crocheted blanket, donated to me, during my hospital stay...The blanket that, in great part, gave me a desire to work with yarn.
And, as I looked at it, I realized something. While I LOVE it, and use it nightly, it isn't all that complex. The stitches used are incredibly SIMPLE. And I can tell, that the hook used, was rather big. The ends have not been woven in. And, the corners are slightly scrunched...Pulled too tight, with a single stitch border. It is a very basic blanket, that was most likely RUSHED through. And yet, even with all the imperfections, I completely CHERISH it. It is a blanket, that means so VERY much to me. It has offered comfort, and has given me the desire, needed for The Yarn Project. Funny as it may sound, that one little imperfect blanket, has changed me, quite a bit.
So...Today...
Well, the plan is to stay home, and do NOTHING (i.e. Work on the mystery project, and the birthday blanket.)
Yup. That sounds like fun!
And, that is it, for today. Sorry, for the short entry. But, here it is, nonetheless.
Until tomorrow,
Happy looming, and crocheting.
