The New School Week. The New Project.

This Morning...
I woke up, too early. It is my belief that my sweetie-pie is trying to freeze me, during the night. Our bed, as I have already said, is right beside the window. And, I sleep closest to the windows. This means that chill will hit me first. Anyway...Last night, I go to the bedroom. We have one of those HIGH-POWER fans, set up in a window, at the foot of the bed. The window is open. And, the fan is going, full friggin force. It was actually going so strong, that it was blowing the blankets on my side of the bed. I decided to turn on the ceiling fan (which is much better, as it isn't so damned vicious.) I unplugged the BEAST of a fan, in the window, and I settled down, for the night.
At somewhere near 4am, this morning, I woke up, FREEZING! The ceiling fan is still going. And, the window fan was plugged back in, and going FULL force. It had actually blown the covers, off of my legs, which were frozen solid. (I am sure they were actually starting to turn blue.) I turned in the bed, looked at my baby, who was snug, under a heavy-ass quilt, and I felt like SCREAMING! Instead, I unplugged the fan, and tried to go back to sleep.
I was unsuccessful.
At just past 5, I climbed out of bed. I made my way to the kitchen, and started a pot of coffee. Then, TV time.
While watching TV this morning, I picked up the tiny blue loom, which was on the floor, beside the recliner. And, I began working on the sock, that I started last night.
The coffee machine beeped. I got myself a cup. And, I enjoyed my morning, where I was the only one awake.
After downing 2 cups of coffee (which were EXTREMELY good, if I do say so, myself), I made my way to the computer.
First stop: School!
So, last night, I read chapter 3. It was an incredibly short chapter. (Mind you, I am not complaining.)
This morning, with what I read, still floating around in my brain, I decided to just go for it! I clicked on the last link, found in this week's schedule: The quiz. Now, I will say I was extremely nervous as I was redirected, to the 10 questions. I did not do all that well, on last week's quiz. And, before deciding to take the quiz today, I read a few posts made by fellow students. Apparently, this quiz was no cake walk.
The questions popped up on my screen. There was no turning back now!
I took a deep breath, and I began to answer the questions. And, MY GOD! After doing not-so-great, on the last quiz, I was double-questioning each answer, that I selected. The worst, was when the answer seemed obvious. Because last week, all the answers seemed obvious. It turns out, they were OBVIOUSLY wrong. I could feel the sweat, bead on my forehead, as I finished the quiz.
I looked at the submit button. It was such an awful little button. Once I clicked it, I had to settle, for whatever grade I got. There was no going back. I took a deep breath, clicked, and nervously closed my eyes.
And...
I did good! Not a perfect 10, like I would have hoped for. But, not bad. I got 8 out of 10. I am ok with that, I guess.
I am now just starting week three, of class. I have a total of 5 weeks, per class. And, I cannot wait, for this particular class to be over. It is not my cup of tea.
Other news...
I finished the mystery gift yesterday.
I have this, to say...
Felting can drive you CRAZY!
For this project, I chose to felt, by hand. I went to a sink, filled it with hot water, and soap. And then, I let the felting process begin. 5 minutes (give or take) passed, and I pulled the project out. And, I really did not understand what I was seeing.
The length of the project had shrunk considerably. The width, however...Well, that was a different story. I was not expecting it, at all. The width had not shrunk, at all. In fact, as I pulled the project out of the water, I saw that it had, in ways that I don't understand, gotten WIDER!
Explain that, to me. I thought wool was supposed to shrink down, in water. WHY THE HELL WAS THIS PROJECT GETTING WIDER?
I tossed it back in the water, for another few minutes. By this time, I was sweating bullets. I had no more gray wool. I NEEDED this to work. I had my book with me, perched on the counter. On page 127, we are told that, if  your project should come out wrong, it is ok. You can always just cut it, into other usable items. Well, I thought, as I got ready to pull the project, out of the water. If I wanted a FRIGGIN coaster, well...I would have set out, to make a FRIGGIN coaster. Apparently, I wanted this item, and that is why I chose to do it. And if it doesn't work...Well, it is MOST DEFINITELY NOT OK!
This time, the width had shrunk in, just enough. But, the length had also shrunk more. So, I did as the book told me. I PULLED WITH ALL MY FRIGGIN MIGHT! I tugged, and tugged...AND TUGGED!!! I was cursing up a storm, the whole time. About 20 to 25 minutes passed, where I was screaming at this project. I was begging it, to turn out ok, as I pulled like a bat out of hell, on it. Eventually, my mother had decided it was enough.
"FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MICHAEL! IT IS GOING TO BE, WHAT IT IS GOING TO BE. APPARENTLY, CURSING AND PULLING AT IT, ARE NOT HELPING. JUST PUT IT DOWN, AND LET IT DO ITS THING!"
A few more minutes of tugging. Then, I decided my mother was right. I put it down, and I knew. I was defeated. I would have to do this project, ALL OVER AGAIN!
Hours passed, and all I could think about, was the project, resting on the counter. Even as I was in the swimming pool, walking around, with just water to hold me up (and not falling once), I could think of nothing else. (I am really surprised that I did not fall, while walking in the pool, as I was really not thinking about what I was doing, at all. Looking back at it, that is pretty darn cool, if I do say so myself.)
This morning, I looked at the project. It is completely dry.
Is it perfect? No.
Is it just like the sample, seen in the book? No.
But, it is good. It will work. I am actually HAPPY, with how it turned out. And, while I am pretty sure that it will not offer the same use, as the book told me it would, I do KNOW that it will be useful, for anyone who gets it. And, on top of this...IT IS PRETTY!
Anyway, back to last night.
I worked another row, on the birthday blanket. With my sister's birthday fast approaching, I am getting absolutely THRILLED, about the idea, of giving this to her!
I CANNOT wait to get my variegated yarn, from the Hobby Lobby. And, I know I will have extra, which is completely awesome. Because, I plan to work my LAST pair of socks, in this fun candy corn colored yarn. I can honestly say that this is by FAR my FAVORITE yarn.  (Well, for now, anyway.) I was given a skein, by a reader, and I instantly fell in love, with it. If I had my way, I would have a never-ending supply, of this candy corn yarn. The colors are so FRIGGIN awesome!
So, the socks...
Last night, as I have already written, I started working on my second pair of socks. I chose to go with white Caron yarn.
And, as is typical, casting on (with the cable cast on) was sheer hell. The funny part, is this. I had to cast on twice. Why? Well, I got a few rows in, to working the sock, and realized that I had screwed up, in casting on ( a minor flaw. But, as I am super anal, it would have bothered me, to no end.) Anyway, the first time, I cast on, it was a BREEZE! It was so incredibly simple. The second time, not so much!
Eventually, I got my cast on worked, and I was off.
Here is to hoping that this time, I can make a decent sock. I know I am capable of it. The first pair turned out. But my last attempt, as you will remember, just plain SUCKED, in the worst way possible.
Anyway...
Today.
Well, I have physical therapy, at 1:30. After this, a few errands. Then home. I predict a rather lengthy nap, followed by yarn time.
And, that is it. That is all there is, to report today.
Until tomorrow...
Happy looming, and crocheting.
