Create Your Own Fall To-Do Tree

I’ll admit, this idea comes from a weakness I have. When the air starts turning crisp, I start making all these mental plans of everything I want to do during the Fall season. Then life happens and the fun stuff I had on my list gets pushed the the back of my brain. Soon it’s Christmas day and I realized I forgot to let the kids carve a pumpkin. OK, I might be exaggerating a tad bit but you get my drift.

I wanted to create something with the help of my two girls that we could display in our home during fall that would have all the fall activities we want to do. It’s a visual reminder for me and it keeps the kids asking “Mom, when are you going to take me to the pumpkin patch?”

The first thing you need to do is go outside!

Yep, get out there. We did every step of creating this Tree outside.

We brainstormed a bit and wrote down things that we wanted to do during the fall. 8-10 things is what I would strive for.

She’s makin’ a list and checking it twice! Seriously, though, she really got into this list, making sure everything she wanted to do was on there.

Here’s our list. Basic fall stuff.

Then we went on a stick hunt. So. Much. Fun. My girls LOVED doing this.

Here’s our collection of sticks. We put those to the side and went on a leaf search.

We gathered several different shapes of leaves

We gathered several different shapes of leaves and I traced some out and also let the girls trace some out too. I have a tendency to get a little OCD about crafting and making things perfect. I had to “let it go, let it go”. That’s the magic of this tree, it’s something you can do with your kids and let go of the perfection of it. It’s all about creating something with your kids. Memories!

Be still, my heart! I loved how she traced out her leaf! I might have trimmed it down just a tad to fit on our tree.

Here’s our cut out leaves after we traced and cut them.

Then, we just transferred the list that we made onto each of the leaves.

I grabbed a left over party decoration bottle to stick the leaves in. Any ol’ bottle would work. You could even use a mason jar if your sticks were shorter.

My first idea on how to attach the leaves to the sticks was to hot glue them. But for the sake of letting the kids do every step in making this tree, I decided just wrapping the leaf stems around the sticks would suffice.

Ta-da! Here’s our finished tree!

What the kids love is that when we get ready to do one of the activities, they go over to the tree and pluck that leaf off. Hoping for an empty tree by the end of fall! Hope  you enjoy making your own fall to-do trees! This was a super simple project that required no money to be spent and my girls loved it better than any other craft we’ve done! Happy Fall!!
