Jersey post issued eight stamps and a Miniature Sheet celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Jersey Old Motor Club.

The Stamps shows variety of cars ranging from a green 1902 Gladiator Tonneau to a red 1948 MG TC.

The eight stamps in this set have been designed by London agency, Interabang, using photographs taken by Jersey photographer, Andy Le Gresley.

Jersey Old Motor Club 50th anniversary

The Jersey Old Motor Club was established in 1966, with the aim of encouraging the ownership, restoration and use of vintage and post-vintage cars, as well as to protect the Island’s motoring heritage.

Since its formation, the focus of the Club’s calendar has been the staging of rallies and events at which members can exercise their cars.

“The stamps feature cars belonging to members of the Jersey Old Motor Club,” explains Rachel MacKenzie, Jersey Post’s Philatelic Marketing Manager.

“We wanted to show a variety of makes and colours and have included cars ranging from a green 1902 Gladiator Tonneau to a red 1948 MG TC.

Andy was tasked with capturing the cars in different locations around the Island and in the backgrounds of the stamps you will see some of Jersey’s most beautiful coastal spots as well as iconic landmarks such as Grosnez Castle, La Rocco Tower and Noirmont Point.”

The Jersey Old Motor Club’s showcase event of the year is the Twelve Churches Cavalcade held on 26 December and familiarly known as the Boxing Day Run.

A Miniature Sheet featuring a photograph of the 1969 Boxing Day Run accompanies the eight stamps and both the stamps and the Miniature Sheet have been enhanced with a metallic silver ink.

Stephanie Constantine, President of the Jersey Old Motor Club comments: “It is very exciting to have a stamp issue to commemorate the Jersey Old Motor Club’s 50th anniversary year.

The ethos of our club means that we have so many different makes of cars all dating from the beginning of the twentieth century, through the art-deco inspired designs of the twenties and thirties, to the early post war period right up to the end of 1950.

I think this comes across very well in the cars that Jersey Post has chosen for the issue.

The club has grown from its small beginnings to the present, where we enjoy the greatest number of members to date.

We are delighted that the JOMC and its history will be in print across the world.”
