Sports of Rio 2016 Olympic Games Brazil

The 2016 Summer Olympics, commonly known as Rio 2016 Olympic Games, are the thirty-first Summer Olympic Games to be held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The 2016 Summer Olympics are officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.

The games will take place from 5 to 21 August 2016 and more than 10,500 athletes from 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will take part in this sporting event.

There will be 31 different stamps designs in total, reflecting the fact that Rio 2016 will be the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.

The Stamps are part of the history of the Games and help construct the memory of the biggest sporting event on the planet,” said Rio 2016’s Licensing Director.

# First series of Olympic and Paralympic Games Modalities stamps

Brazil post issued the first series of Olympic and Paralympic Games Modalities Stamps to celebrate 500 days until Rio 2016 Olympic Games to be take place in August 2016.

Brazilian Post, unveiled 10 designs featuring nine Olympic sports – basketball, rugby, weightlifting, rowing, aquatics, archery, cycling, badminton and wrestling – and Paralympic athletics.

The stamps were issued during special event at the organising committee’s headquarters in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

# Second series of Olympic and Paralympic Games Modalities stamps

The Brazilian Post launched the second series of Olympic and Paralympic Games Modalities stamps in continuation to the countdown to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The stamps portrays 10 sports, nine Olympic and one Paralympic: boxing, canoe, fencing, football, golf, handball, Paralympic judo, table tennis, taekwondo and triathlon.

The image printed on each stamp illustrates a characteristic action of the practice of the game.

In the background, there are images with complementary information about the sports, such as equipment, courts and kits.

# Third series of Olympic and Paralympic Games Modalities stamps

The third series of sports-themed stamps were launched at the Brazilian Tennis Awards at the Gran Mercurio Riocentro Hotel in Barra da Tijuca, close to the Olympic Park where the new Olympic Tennis Centre is based.

The Stamps feature tennis, sailing, judo, modern pentathlon, beach volleyball, gymnastics, athletics, shooting, equestrian, hockey and Paralympic swimming.

They complete the set of 31 designs – in recognition of the fact that the Rio 2016 Games will be the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.

Olympic and Paralympic mascots Vinicius and Tom

The third batch of Rio 2016 Olympic Games commemorative stamps also features Olympic and Paralympic mascots Vinicius and Tom the stars of the show.

The blocks on the mascots are composed of two stamps each and have the scene of the animated series Tom and Vinicius – Fun for Nature.

The Vinicius and Tom stamps are likely to become valuable collectors’ items as they are the first Olympic and Paralympic Games commemorative stamps to be inscribed in Braille.

Vinicius : Mascot of the Olympic Games Rio 2016

The mascot block of Rio 2016 Olympic Games is composed of two stamps, with the Games Official Mark applied to the upper right corner and highlights the mascot of the Olympic Games: Vinicius, who has been named in honor of the poet Vinicius de Moraes.

Its creation was inspired by the rich Brazilian fauna and reveals joy and catchy colors, which reflects the energy of the Olympic Movement and the beauty of Rio de Janeiro.

The iconographic set suggests dynamism and values ??associated to the city’s charms and determination around the Games.

The piece is enriched by the application of embossing in the drawings mascot and the inscriptions in Braille, which feature the caption: “Vinicius – Mascot of the 2016 Olympic Games.”

Tom : Mascot Paralympic Games Rio 2016

Composed of two stamps, with the Games Official Mark applied to the upper right corner of the block highlights the mascot of the Paralympic Games Rio 2016, which is named after Tom after the great musician and composer Tom Jobim.

His allegory and their movements honor the great event that Brazil will host in 2016. Flora representative of Brazil, Tom is focused on happy poses, illustrating the issue with a full head of hair of tropical foliage.

In one of the seals, the mascot shows the Brazilian musicality through the tambourine while the other performs steps that symbolize the movement around the Games.

The piece is enriched by the application of embossing in the drawings mascot and the inscriptions in Braille, which feature the caption: “Tom – mascot of the Paralympic Games Rio 2016”.

In both blocks there is an evident concern to promote accessibility through the Games. In both computer graphics techniques were used.
