Crochet Flower Potholder Pattern

Brighten up your own kitchen or make a make a friend happy with this pretty and practical potholder.
The recommended colors for this one are red, green and yellow which makes it great for Christmas time!  Switch up the colors to make this a beautiful potholder for anytime of year!
You will need about 90 yards of red and 95 yards of green bedspread cotton, 25 yards of white or yellow and a number 10 steel crochet hook.

Abbreviations: ch (chain), sc (single crochet), st (stitch), dc (double crochet), sl st (slip stitch), tr (treble), rnd (round)

Flower center of crochet potholder:

With white, ch 6, sl st in first ch st to form a ring.
Rnd 1:
Ch 3, working in back lps only, make 17 dc in ring, sl st in top of ch 3.
Rnd 2:
Ch 3, work in back lps only, dc at base of ch, 2 dc in each dc around, sl st in top of ch 3.
Rnd 3:
Ch 3, work in back lps only, do in each dc around, sl st in top of ch 3.
Fasten off.

Flower Petals of crochet potholder:

Join red to any dc of center.
Rnd 1:
* Ch 3, holding last lp of each tr on hook, make 2 tr at base of ch 3, thread over and pull through all lps on hook at once for a Cluster, (ch 1, make a 3 tr cluster in next dc) 3 times, ch 1, make a 2 tr cluster in next dc, ch 3, sl st in same dc, sl st in each of next 2 dc.
Repeat from * 5 times, end with a sl st in last dc, sl st at base of first ch 3, ch 3, sl st in top of same first ch.
Rnd 2:
* Ch 3, 2 tr in same place with last sl st, (ch 1, 3 tr cluster over next ch 1) 4 times, Ch 1, 2 tr cluster in top of ch 3 in cluster below, ch 3, sl st in same place with last cluster, ch 3, sc in sl st between petals, ch 3, sl st in top of first cluster in next petal.
Repeat from * around, end with a ch 3, sl st in top of first ch 3.
Rnd 3:
* Ch 3, 2 tr in same place with last sl st, (ch 1, 3 tr cluster over next ch 1) 5 times, ch 1, 2 tr cluster in top of ch 3 in cluster below, ch 3, sl st in same place with last cluster, ch 3, sl st in sl st between next 2 rnds, ch 3, sc in sc between petals, ch 3, sl st in sl st between next 2 rnds, ch 3, sl st in top of first cluster.
Repeat from * around, end with a ch 3, sl st in top of first ch 3.
Rnds 4 through 7:
Work in same manner as for rnd 3, increasing one cluster in each petal in each new rnd.
Fasten off.

Back and Leaves for Crochet Flower Potholder

With green, ch 6, sl st in first ch st for a ring. .

Rnd 1:

Ch 3, 3 dc in ring, ch 1, (4 dc in ring, ch 1) 5 times, sl st in top of ch 3.

Rnd 2:

Ch 3, working in back lp only, dc at base of ch 3, dc in. each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, (2 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2)

5 times, sl st in top of first ch 3.

Rnds 3 through 5:

Continue in same manner as for rnd 2, having 2 do in first and last dc and a dc in each dc between. Always have a ch 2 over a ch 2 and sl st in top of first ch 3.

Rnds 6, 7:

Work in same manner as for rnd 3 except start rnd with ch 4 and have tr instead of dc.

Rnd 8:
Ch 4, tr at base of ch 4, * tr in each of next 4 tr, (3 tr cluster in next tr, ch 1) 6 times, tr in each of next 4 tr, 2 tr in next tr, ch 2, 2 tr in next tr, continue around in same manner, end with sl st in top of ch 4, sl st in each of next 6 sts, sl st in ch between first 2 clusters.
You are now ready to make leaf.
Rnd 9:
* Ch 3, 2 tr cluster at base of ch 3, (ch 1, 3 tr cluster between next 2 clusters) 4 times, ch 1, turn, sl st between next 2 clusters, ch 3, 2 tr cluster at base of ch 3, (ch 1, 3 tr cluster between next 2 clusters) 3 times, ch 1, turn, sl st between next 2 clusters, ch 3, 2 tr cluster at base of ch 3, (ch 1, 3 tr cluster between next 2 clusters) twice, ch 1, turn, sl st between next 2 clusters, ch 3, 2 tr cluster at base of ch 3, ch 1, 3 tr cluster between next 2 clusters, ch 1, turn, sl st between 2 clusters, ch 3, 2 tr cluster at base of ch 3, ch 3, sl st in same place, (ch 3, sl st at base of cluster of row below) 4 times.
This completes leaf and you are now ready to make the petal back.
Sl st in top of cluster of row below and in first tr, ch 3, tr in each of next 5 tr, ch 2, tr in each of next 6 tr, ch 3, turn, tr at base of ch 3, 2 tr in each of next 5 tr, 2 tr over ch 2, 2 tr in each of next 5 tr, 2 tr,in top of ch 3, ch 3, turn, tr in each tr, tr in top of turning ch 3, ch 3, sl st in same place with last tr, (ch 3, sl st at base of next tr below) twice.
This completes petal back.
Now, sl st in between tr and cluster, sl st between first 2 clusters.
Repeat from * 5 times. Fasten off.
Joining:
With wrong sides of front and back together, with petals and petal backs in place, join white to any petal.
Work sc closely over both front and back of petals until you come to leaf.
Drop back and work sc around petal fronts only until you reach beginning of next petal back, now work sc through both pieces again.
Continue around.
Make lp for hanging at any point desired.  Fasten off.

Now over to you....
