This is a large pattern. It is over 13" wide. The pattern requires 1/4" thick wood. You may want to use plywood for this project. In the rendered image I am showing the backer board painted blue. That seemed appropriate.
Years ago our family went on a cruise to the Western Caribbean. We left from Miami and one of the stops was the Grand Cayman island. One of the excursions was a stop at the Cayman Turtle Center. It was amazing how large some of the Sea Turtles were. I also learned that sea turtles can live up to 100 years old. That is if they can last the first few days. Only about 1 in 1,000 hatchlings live to adulthood. Sea birds feast on them when they are small. Nice long life but the odds are against them.
