According to Statista, the number of people practicing Martial Arts in the US has increased by almost 23% between 2010 and 2021, reaching around 6.2 million. In 2020, there were 39,310 martial arts businesses in the US, projected to grow to 50,490 by the end of 2022. In 2020, martial arts schools had an average annual revenue of $114,657. More than 4 million children participate in various martial arts disciplines in the US. The current net value of the martial arts industry in the US is $16.8 billion. The current market for crafts in the US is close to $300 billion. Obviously, the value of martial arts is small by comparison but because so many children are involved in martial arts it makes this pattern have some value for gifting.

This pattern is 8" tall and the base is 9.5" long. There is a significant amount of veining in this pattern. It can be helpful to use a larger blade for the veining so they stand out better. You do have to be careful to not weaken the project by over-cutting the veins. It is okay to shorten the veins if you believe they are making the wood too breakable. A vein that is strong in a wood like cherry or walnut may be very weak in red oak. Some judgment is required.
